Maar is forgotten?

The wol has a named hybrid called maar for one of the bonus missions and it was replaced with a generic hybrid destroyer. Could use maar as a hybrid co-op commander. I haven’t forgotten about him he was a neat little boss to fight while playing the bonus zeratul missions. I dunno why they got rid of him.

Commanders are against Amon. It wouldn’t make sense for a hybrid to oppose him

Nothing is cannon in co-op and it is just what if scenarios.

Coop is its own cannon

Yeah but you won’t expect Valerian willingly helping Amon in a future mission for example. Not being cannon doesn’t mean it can be incoherent with characters motivations.

Why not? For example we have Mengsk that was Amon’s puppet all along and would never be allied with not-bad guys, being mind-controlled by Kerrigan’s neural parasite and forced to fight on the players side. Why can’t Zeratul smack Maars butt, and force him into submission for the sake of using him against Amon?

Mengsk was not a puppet of Amon. At best he served his interests unknowngly.

Mengsk, Kerrigan, Raynor and Fenix were allies back before. I dont see why wouldnt Mengsk ally with “good” commanders for a common goal (stand against Amon).

I think the Hybrids fear Amon waaaaaaay more than they could ever fear Zeratul.

My main point is, the coop cannon is designed as Amon and his hybrids as the antagonists in each scenario. Hybrids opposing him makes no sense.

Puppets always think that they are independent. They won’t ally Mengsk under any circumstances. Even Amon’s existence is not proved, but Zeratul blade is very real.

A heroic hybrid commander would be interesting and give an opportunity to maybe write a story from a different perspective.

It’d be nice to see him in a mission again, maybe similar to Jinara’s mission where you have to defeat enemy bases in one path to win, and every passing minute Maar gets stronger until he’s invincible.

Definitely true that Mengsk was being manipulated into helping Amon.

But personally I can very easily see the good guys deciding Mengsk is a much smaller threat, after all he was trying to rule everything not kill everything. See UED as an example of Raynor working with Mengsk.

Mengsk’s justification is even easier, there’s no one to rule if everyone is dead.

As i said, ofc he will be useful when neuro-parasited, because in that cause there is no danger of betrayal. But after what happened in original, bw and after what was decribed in SC2 terran campaign, there are no way not mind-controlled or other way chained Mengsk would be accepted as ally, especially when we have Valerian who is cooperative and have all rights to lead Dominion forces by right of heir. Allying free Mengsk just don’t make any sense.

Except that Mengsk “allying” the others would be nothing more than him trying to cover his own tail for the end war. He recognizes that if everything blows up from Amon, then he can’t be the undisputed ruler of the Dominion. So it would be nothing more than a temporary truce, and then he goes back to being a complete tyrant.

I don’t support this idea. Maar got killed off in WoL by Zeratul, since he couldn’t feed on the energies of the Preservers. He was an antagonist through and through and only lived to serve Amon. Hybrids should stay under Amon’s rule, not become an ally.

Mengsk should serve Amon or himself and not become ally, but here we are. I am totally agree that no maars and hybrids needed, and ofc with it we get rid of Mengsk (replace him with Valerian for example) but this will not happen. So hybrid commander is possible too, because devs broke any borders.

I still don’t agree with you. What or who made Mengsk want to make the Hybrids in the first place, we don’t know. We’re missing context on that. However, for him to be a “puppet of Amon” or an “ally” to Amon is completely false to me. Mengsk isn’t one to just bow to a higher power. He is the higher power. A God amongst men is what he sees himself as.

Ok. Mengsk can’t be an ally to anyone. Even if your thought about him considering himself a god is right, god don’t fear or don’t make alliances to cover his as, he is just almighty. So Mengsk with god syndrome just don’t accept anyone who he sees as inferior even as temporal ally (what I was talking is about mengsk sure will like to cover his butt (and he considers himself a coward, not a god) but everyone is not stupid here and won’t make such a “fruitful” alliance). Any way no alliances with Mengsks and protoss or Raynor or Kerrigan is not ever possible. But it is happening in co-op, which means we will get any absurd thing we can imagine, if the devs will have the wish for it.

Mengsk is a stratagist, I think he would be willing to ally with anyone if it is to further his cause and considering the situation the ‘good guys’ would take any help they can get to fight Amon. That’s why I think an allience between Mengsk and the rest wouldn’t have been impossible.

The reason I would like to see a hybrid commander is not just because of the expended gameplay possibilities. It seems that many players, including me, would enjoy the flavour of playing with hybrids.
Story wise multiple (what if) scenarios could be possible to justify such a commander, just from the top of my head:

  1. A scientist utilizing technology to create new hybrids under his control.
  2. Narud was slaving away to revive Amon just to be able to consume him.
  3. A rogue hybrid that doesn’t want to see the end of the universe, perhaps he enjoyed displaying his power or wants to rule his own faction, ect.

Bottom line: We want Hybrid Army

A hybrid army could work if it the organization were a Dominion science organization, leveraging the discoveries of the Moebius Foundation against Amon. However, their control over their own hybrid would be tenuous – if you don’t take the right precautions, they could break free and join Amon’s forces against you.

It is a concept that I could see working. Just spit balling, but the use of hybrid containment cells to restrain and ‘recalibrate’ the hybrids to ensure control/temporary buff them. Or perhaps a xel’naga artifact car that can sustain semi permanent control on the move.

It also gives room for other moebius tech to be used, think warp marines or the time slow pyramid for example.
