Lair and hive supply

I feel that when a Zerg (Kerrigan) lair and hive morph, they should give extra supply.

Why should they? Or why should only the Zerg town centers give supply, why not all?

Well, all three do actually give supply. Any commander’s quick expands, and Raynor’s macro Orbital Command or a Zerg’s macro Hatchery style rely on it to have a smooth supply curve.


Per the topic, I get the idea, but Overlords only cost minerals, Lairs and Hives cost gas. You’d get very minimal benefits from having them give extra supply beyond a normal Hatchery amount.

I can understand the notion that since we will always Lair and Hive tech, why not add a few extra supply as bonus.

I suppose the real complication is to figure out the impact and exactly how many.

As I’ve provided you with the Kerrigan Solo Opener, this would give rise to quite the savings:

  1. Getting to Lair (If provides 1-2 supply), then an entire Overlord can be saved. This amounts to 1 extra Larva and 100min.
  2. Hive tech (I’d assumed the same 1-2 supply), then further saves that Overlord cost.
  3. The real benefit becomes the extra 4 Drones is off set by the Overlord savings. Since now you are working with 18 Drones rather than 14 (with supply block without the Lair/Hive supply bonus), your income is much higher by 3:30min when Hive finishes.
  4. In this particular case, the player would be able to do at least one of the following:
  • Have an already completed Omega Network
  • Built two Evolution Chambers (versus standard 1)
  • Finished researching 1 of Kerrigan’s research OR started both Ability Efficiency + one other.

These are the implications I can foresee from simply adding 1-2 free supply to Lair and Hive. So it’s more about the interaction with the change that’s important than simply a convenience.

Assuming this hypothetical situation, then Kerrigan is made that much more powerful than she already is currently.

Now that I have taken a nap I’ve rethought it. Kerrigan should just have 200 supply like artanis. And have unit cost halved. And should have 700% energy regeneration. And automatic detection. And a 5 sexo d cool down on immobo wave. And structure build time halfed. And she should pop out at 3 min.

No. Even as a joke, this hurts.

I’m just so bored while she is spawning. Maybe for April fools day.

1 less than terran, equal to protoss actually. Same in BW: CC 10, nexus 9, ovie + hatch 9.

in the original starcraft: hatcheries provided 1 supply, lairs provided 2 and hives provided 3.

This idea makes sense to me - lair and hive are bigger buildings therefore should be able to fit more supply.
