Pretty much the thread title. Can SC3 bring the RTS genre back?
SC1 Released: March 1998
9 Years later, SC2 was announced May 2007 and eventually released July 2010.
That is a 12 year gap and there are not any whispers of another installment of Starcraft RTS.
We are not getting any younger …

i am not opposed to a new starcraft game but, they should port over skins and commanders if they choose to create one. not that i think that it is likely. it was difficult for them to create a second game and a third game is highly unlikely because they care more about diablo and warcraft. there was 2 games announced alongside diablo 1 which never surfaced.

I have higher hopes for something insane like “3D head to head Tetris” “RTS” skinned in Diablo lore or Age of Mythology 2 (aka an AOM on an engine like sc2) than I do on a real starcraft 3. The campaign plot was a self-destruct and the multiplayer design burned a lot of enthusiasm out of people.
I’m ecstatic I have SC remastered.
That can last forever, right?
Maybe it’s good for a franchise to die.

Date is not an argument for the release of a new game.
What would you like SC3 to have that SC2 does not have? Can this be done by improving SC2?

Well 3 factions with sub factions would be the next evolution. I look forward to the campaign more so than Multiplayer but I generally play a lot more 1v1 MP than SP.
Coop Commanders can also stay.
If Blizzard wanted to give us more campaigns for SC2 I would be for that but I do not see that happening. I also didn’t care for the way LotV ended and tbh the Epilogue should just be scrapped.

The drive for Starcraft 3 would largely depend on how much demand there is for a third installment, let alone a new RTS game.
It takes significant amounts of time, resources and effort to make a new game. If it doesn’t at least make a decent profit it simply won’t happen.
The company that owns SC IP is Activision Blizzard. So you probably wont get SC3 anytime soon. And if you do, you probably wont want it.

No, it can’t. But it must be more fun than Starcraft 2.
RTS is too hard for people as a casual hobby and I’m not even sure I mean that in a flaming way.
People can barely play MOBA well enough.
Just don’t put too much into the E-sports. It’s not StarCraft but money that drives people crazy. Or Blizzard can change the methods that players get money, force them to teach green hand.
For example, force the highest scores player to teach lowest scores players. And if the lowest scores players can’t improve his rank in next seasons. Don’t give the highest scores player money. Sometimes do charity is good.
I really think an SC3 game would be awesome, more units on the game, another zoom level upwards, squad comands, improved companions in the units, may be heroes?¿ like WC…
IDK but I m so sure that ther´s room for an SC3 but it has to be better than SC2, otherwise… Noup!
It follows that SC3 will be announced in 2022.

It is now 2022. Sadly still nothing. So depressing.
That will soon change!
yeah this game is pretty much in the trash can. Design wise its a mess.
Time to start over and make sc3.
Current crew gets a vote of no confidence from me. This empty shell of a company that once was Blizzard does not have the talent nor the vision to live up to its legacy.
And even IF per chance they manage to concoct a worthy Starcraft title, I am sure some manager up on high will insist on rolling patches to increase revenue whilst gradually trashing the game, so that by the time you’ve sunk several hundred $$ into the game and its expansions, you find you enjoy it less and less until one day you no longer recognize it at all.
tl;dr hard pass.

I really hate the video game trend that started in the 2000s where the focus has been to make multiplayer video games.
im never gonna play storm gate. guaranteed. Im too old to learn a bunch new words for RTS units for a world that doesn’t connect in any way to the other one. Blizzard is insane.

You realize current blizzard is not capable of making StarCraft 3. It takes so much to make a good RTS, which blizzard had back in day, but they got rid of all goated RTS game developers.

I have never posted here but I just wanted to say, I hope one day we get SC3. I loved playing SC2 and its full campaign and would love to have more stories from the SC universe.
It’s up to Microsoft really. If they see value in the RTS experience of Blizzard. I don’t think they will though as they don’t really generate revenue after their initial sale.
