Is diamond considered the "I know how to play this game" rank?

diamond 2 is decent diamond 3 is horrible, i can beat diamond 3 players with my mouse hand only.

You can get to at least diamond 2 with only focusing on not getting supply blocked, making units all the time and push before maxed out.

I think diamond is considered the rank that’s better than platinum and worse than masters

thanks bro, very good observation you really made me look at it from a new perspective.

No. If you play the game enough, you will get Diamond. Most people need to study, practice builds, watch replays to go from Diamond to Master, which is where the understanding comes in. Many Diamond players have the tools to get master league, just not a way to put it together.

There are 2 kinds of people in Diamond 3: those who knows of BO and what they are doing and those who don’t but have great mechanic (people with well over 10K games… for comparison - I have slightly more than 1K ladder games and I managed to hit D2 although I’m below that level right now; man I hate TvP its MMR dump for me( ).

I guess when player have both he will get to Masters…

I got you covered. But yeah, Diamond is a huge league with 300-400 MMR difference per “sub league”

if you have 10k games of 1v1 you should be masters 2 even without a proper build order

That’s a very specific criteria you’re setting.

who me? wdym explain more… 20 chars

Yesterday I played with two D3 player one of whom had 16K and other 15K games.

well keep in mind i have 6.5k games on my main profile but of those only 3.5k games were terran 1v1.

im m3 and dont really use build orders that i copied from somewhere and kindof just eyeball it, except for tvt i do standard.

i have noticed recently that having better mechanics is no longer enough and i actually need to think more about strategies if i want to win.

you can check how many games you have with your race by going to
profile > ladders>race report>1v1>uncheck the box that says “this season” it will show you all the games you have had for each race.

It took me about 800 ladder games to make it to D3, but I was studying BOs via various guides and observing what pros are doing. When I loose I usually loose because I’m much slower than my opponent or I don’t understand what he is doing and thus can’t react properly.

Except TvP. This match-up feels like a gamble. I can make no major mistake (at least the ones I can see) but still loose because it just happens that BO that he picked beats mine.

i think for diamond 3 being fast is enough to win most of your games and is also important. macro is easily the most important skill to learn and if you dont have macro you wont be able to use any strategies(because you dont have enough units)

what i can tell you about tvp is that
if you dont make vikings or tanks and he has collosus you WILL die(unless you have a significant lead)
if you dont make ghosts and he has storm you WILL die(even if you have a significant lead)
marines do fine against zealots even with A-move, marauders dont even with micro.
liberators are the ultimate terran late game unit against prottoss and can only be countered by tempest, which they shouldnt be able to make unless they have a huge amount of eco.

The problem is to make it to this point.

E.g. against Stargate openers 3Rax opener is very strong, and it is good enough vs Blink opener. Against Robo though its very bad (Robo-Bay-3d Nexus).
Just yesterday I lost game like that because first, I didn’t had Vikikngs when he already had Colossus and I couldn’t take third, and after I had Vikings he already had Storm while I hadn’t transitioned to Ghosts yet (basically I didn’t had enough gas because I couldn’t take 3d for so long).

If I played WM drop build I would wreck him hard because he was floating 3K minerals in bank so his mechanic was WAY worse than mine. This randomness of TvP is what makes it so infuriating.

yeah idk i dont really play against stargate, i would just make marines.

its important to use your reaper to scout or maybe scans to find out if they are going robo or twilight, i usually dont though and just find out by attacking them.

also i agree tvp IS a very rock paper scissors match up

Yeah, but you have to commit to build before Protoss puts his tech)

E.g. for 3Rax push you put Barracks before Gas.

Rax first/gas first does not really decide the game anyways. It should be rax first 90% of the time if you are going macro, the only time you need gas first is if you go for a cyclone or tank attack with scvs. As for vikings and ghosts vs collosi and storm, you should have around 6 ghosts and 6 vikings with your bio and medivacs for your +2/+2 push anyway. TvP feels less like rock paper scissors and more like a coin flip to me. Either I get good EMPs or he gets good storms/disruptor shots, and that’s game.

The standard widow mine into 3 barracks can hold pretty much any macro opening from Protoss. So can Raven builds. Obviously, raven builds are stronger vs collosi and the standard 3 rax is stronger vs blink, but they’re all still very viable. It’s super rare to lose a game to just build orders when the build orders are both macro.
