Thereâs no need to wait at all, you can calculate this out exactly.
Mission completion bonus is 20k while Bonus completion is 2k (some are split depending on map).
So on Brutal currently, the extra bonus you get is 100% or 2x 20k = 40k for mission completion. Most people play Random Map bonus 25% or 0.25 x 20k = 5k. You add these numbers together, it gives you 40K (mission) + 5K (random) = 45k. The other 4.5k totalling 49.5k per Brutal mission comes from 2.25 x 2K (bonus) = 4.5k exactly.
So what does this mean for Brutal +1 through +6?
Brutal +1 is 175% as compared to Brutalâs 100% boost bonus. Assuming still we are doing random map bonus. So instead of the 2.25 multiplier, it is now 3 (extra 0.75) as multiplier. Letâs do the math:
20K mission x 3 = 60K
2K bonus x 3 = 6K
Total on Brutal +1 = 66K (versus 49.5K Brutal)
This is a 16.5K gain or 33% gain.
Brutal +2: 71.5K
Brutal +3: 77K
Brutal +4: 82.5K
Brutal +5: 88K
Brutal +6: 93.5K (This is only 89% gain from Brutal)
Basically, past Brutal +1, the gain per +level is only 5.5K (again under assumption of Random Map Bonus accounted for).
Whatâs unclear at this point is what constitute each Brutal +level, as in how many mutators of which type (or which tier since they categorized them).
What these numbers imply is that if your goal is to be efficient with gaining xp while still wanting a challenge, where is the optimal spot for your skill level. Most maps can average a 15min completion time (some more, some less obviously).
- A map like Malwarfare that takes 26min by default would benefit most in theory for Brutal +6 because you canât actually shorten the map. Of course, this assumes you can handle Brutal 6+ mutators/difficulty.
- On the other hand, a map that can be finished quickly like say LL in 10min would benefit the least for such difficulty because the mutators prevent quick completion. (ie. on LL to finish on Brutal +6, you have to complete it in less than 19min to be on par to a 10min completion time on Brutal while overcoming the added difficulties).
From the sounds of it, even Brutal +1 has anywhere between 2-4 mutators (or combination of based on their tier level per development team). So any player who does weekly brutation can evaluate this from their own skill perspective.
- How long does it take me (as my own skill level) to complete a weekly brutation with only 3 pre-revealed, pre-determined mutators.
- How much variation will there be with 2-4 mutators? (At this point nobody knows, but whatâs for certain is itâll be randomized.)
- How much benefit will you really gain by doing it?
The answer becomes obvious that those who enjoy challenges would do as high level as they can handle. This hasnât really changed because of this Brutal + introduction at all, as custom mutation has always been around to help challenge players. Those who seek quick xp gain are better off still learning how to cheese maps.
One thing to end I will note is that if players can âchooseâ the mutators for that Brutal+ level, then certain cheeses can still be applied for select maps. This would in fact give rise to a better approach to the same monotonous xp gain method (though made slightly less mind-numbing).
