Standard Brutal - 100%

Blizz_Ryans said - Standard Brutal difficulty level adds 100% Bonus XP, Brutal+ adds 175% Bonus XP, and then each additional level of Brutal+ adds another 25%. So for example, Brutal+ 6 adds 300% Bonus XP.

Standard Brutal - 100%
Brutal+1 - 175%
Brutal+2 - 200%
Brutal+3 - 225%
Brutal+4 - 250%
Brutal+5 - 275%
Brutal+6 - 300%

This is old information already I think. The 25% extra ramp up after Brutal+1 is not worth the time at all. Non-coincidentally I’m sure, Brutal to Brutal+1 is a 75% jump, which is undoubtedly to incentivize people to queue for it. And the math is done on this already, the 75% again is not worth the time.

I am focusing specifically on the xp % gain here because obviously the underlying idea here is “more xp = better reward = more incentive to play”. To that end, I think they’ve really done a very poor job of it. Oh well…

I am sure the similar frustration as random queue weekly brutation will happen at Brutal +1. Basically, “are these difficult? no…” but “do you have to work extra hard (and sometimes even then) for less/no reward? absolutely”. Since mutators aren’t balanced (even though they have this “tier” introduction). What will inevitably happen is 1/x games will have said imbalanced mutator randomized to be too hard while the other spectrum will also occur ‘too easy’.

In the end, just a poorly disguised custom mutation with crappy rewards. Ironically, when mutation was first introduced many suggested this exact change. Back then, people were so against it as it would “force people to play them for the extra reward”. And now we move to present day, here we are with the exact thing people were so stubbornly against… only it’s years and years later… wonder what changed at Blizzard and in people’s hearts haha.

Let’s see how much xp Brutal +6 gives on mutation.

You can’t combine Brutal+ with the weekly mutation.

You know I think im gonna have an excellent time getting xp by just doing Zeratul solos on Brutal+6

There’s no need to wait at all, you can calculate this out exactly.

Mission completion bonus is 20k while Bonus completion is 2k (some are split depending on map).

So on Brutal currently, the extra bonus you get is 100% or 2x 20k = 40k for mission completion. Most people play Random Map bonus 25% or 0.25 x 20k = 5k. You add these numbers together, it gives you 40K (mission) + 5K (random) = 45k. The other 4.5k totalling 49.5k per Brutal mission comes from 2.25 x 2K (bonus) = 4.5k exactly.

So what does this mean for Brutal +1 through +6?
Brutal +1 is 175% as compared to Brutal’s 100% boost bonus. Assuming still we are doing random map bonus. So instead of the 2.25 multiplier, it is now 3 (extra 0.75) as multiplier. Let’s do the math:
20K mission x 3 = 60K
2K bonus x 3 = 6K
Total on Brutal +1 = 66K (versus 49.5K Brutal)
This is a 16.5K gain or 33% gain.

Brutal +2: 71.5K
Brutal +3: 77K
Brutal +4: 82.5K
Brutal +5: 88K
Brutal +6: 93.5K (This is only 89% gain from Brutal)
Basically, past Brutal +1, the gain per +level is only 5.5K (again under assumption of Random Map Bonus accounted for).

What’s unclear at this point is what constitute each Brutal +level, as in how many mutators of which type (or which tier since they categorized them).

What these numbers imply is that if your goal is to be efficient with gaining xp while still wanting a challenge, where is the optimal spot for your skill level. Most maps can average a 15min completion time (some more, some less obviously).

  • A map like Malwarfare that takes 26min by default would benefit most in theory for Brutal +6 because you can’t actually shorten the map. Of course, this assumes you can handle Brutal 6+ mutators/difficulty.
  • On the other hand, a map that can be finished quickly like say LL in 10min would benefit the least for such difficulty because the mutators prevent quick completion. (ie. on LL to finish on Brutal +6, you have to complete it in less than 19min to be on par to a 10min completion time on Brutal while overcoming the added difficulties).

From the sounds of it, even Brutal +1 has anywhere between 2-4 mutators (or combination of based on their tier level per development team). So any player who does weekly brutation can evaluate this from their own skill perspective.

  1. How long does it take me (as my own skill level) to complete a weekly brutation with only 3 pre-revealed, pre-determined mutators.
  2. How much variation will there be with 2-4 mutators? (At this point nobody knows, but what’s for certain is it’ll be randomized.)
  3. How much benefit will you really gain by doing it?

The answer becomes obvious that those who enjoy challenges would do as high level as they can handle. This hasn’t really changed because of this Brutal + introduction at all, as custom mutation has always been around to help challenge players. Those who seek quick xp gain are better off still learning how to cheese maps.

One thing to end I will note is that if players can “choose” the mutators for that Brutal+ level, then certain cheeses can still be applied for select maps. This would in fact give rise to a better approach to the same monotonous xp gain method (though made slightly less mind-numbing).

If you have a second pc with a second account, have fun. Brutal +2 and further need premade group so it is just custom mutation with more exp

16.5 K gain not 10.5K gain

Apparently can’t read my 0’s and 6’s lol. The 21% should be 33%, you’re right.

16.5/49.5=33.3% not 21%

it depends on if people are motivated by exp/minute (where that analysis matters) instead of exp/session that they are likely to win

The xp boost doesn’t matter, I’ll play brutal+ for the fun of it, I already usually play custom mutations with zero xp boost.

I only care about efficiency to get to lvl 1000.

It sounds like this will be a curated Wheel of Misfortune.
In that you should not get insta-loose combinations.

Hopefully WoM can be removed for good from weekly mutations then, as its better form would be around all the time.

Ill give Brutal+ a go, but cant see me playing it much. I dont find mutations that fun.
I use to always do the weekly, and that was kind of enough mutations for the week.
But where I have played less, and we had a run of real hard / no fun mutations I havent even bothered with those.

Still… I guess Brutal+ is something for those who really want more of a challenge, and I hope it works out for those players.

WoM is different because mutations change throughout the game

Brutal+ is random mutations to start only

Ahh, ok didnt realise.
I for some reason thought they would keep changing.
But that makes sense, 1 set is picked and thats your set for the match.

Wonder how much insta-quiting there will be when people get a set they dont like
