Improving Stukov's Brood Queen

This may not be necessary, but I gave the Brood Queens to consume biological units.
The purpose is to promote and improve “Brood Queen Only” composition.

Brood Queen have very useful abilities (Broodling hatch and Fungal Growth) but those costs quite amount of energy and you may have to use them frequently.
Extra regeneration upgrade may not be sufficient.
So, I implemented them with “Consume” ability so they can recharge their energy.

Consume cooldown is 10 > 60 seconds
and I programmed it to consume “Ground based Biological units only” so player can only consume infested units.
I made it this way so player won’t take advantage of Infested Banshee and Infested Bunkers (Which have great health regen speed).

What do you think?

I think the only validator necessary is “cannot target structures.” The 60 second cooldown is plenty a restriction.

Good idea. They’d better kill off the unit completely as it were in sc1, and get 50 energy without any cooldown - hello rapidfire and infest structure. So no abusing bunkers or banshees because you will lose them. And queens could use like +100 hp or some close number, maybe from upgrade, maybe as just basic health.

I like this idea because this is literally infested queen’s biggest fall out. They work but are very limited to any additional engagement beyond brutal (and even some brutal games).

Although there is no need help protect/restrict consume target type. Mass queens is costly, making banshees or bunkers “just for consume” doesn’t really save the player much. Any normal player would/should just consume the free compound units.

The thing is Brood Queens are rather easily amassable and when lot of Brood Queens are gather you can still use lot of abilities.
Even if you can only target biological unit you can still get 70 (or 100 with infested troopers) energy at most which is still lot of energy gain and Stukov can already send in tons of infested with Infested Civilisation Compound.

And besides, Infested Tank and Banshees are excellent energy sources due to their easy health regeneration and players can take advantage of it.

Thanks, as much that would be fun I want to avoid OP range as much as possible (If you know me, you know why).

Their health is fair, I was thinking of boosting their casting range with Optical Parasite though (it is still unimplemented). But I was thinking of employing health regen increase with Mitosis upgrade (Queen’s life regen is twice as higher than energy regen… weird)
Life Regen: 1.0937
Energy Regen: 0.5625

Exactly.

I know I’m bringing this necro’d article back to life but I don’t want to bother writing a ‘new’ article just to ask you guys a ‘question’.

What do you think about the Brood Queens’ Ocular Symbiote to increase “ability and attack” range?
I can imagine Brood Queen to play more role in Mech composition (Tanks especially) and further elevating them as essential spell-casters.

Like Wraiths except its energy regen. I see that can work since Queens are supposed to be micro units.

I think making the research allows Brood Queen to move faster and regenerate energy for each distance traveled is a great idea since you know Brood Queen is more hit-and-run unit than stand and fight. I think it may be more micro friendly this way.

You control the entire group of brood Queens. You spam broodings then run until energy restore and redo.

This + Alarak havocs would make diamondbacks be siege tanks lol

It’s a good idea for buffing queens. I think increasing the ability’s casting range as well as sight range is much needed. And not so much unit attack range.

Currently, there is a niche for queens themselves to function but at a much riskier range, which often takes damage. If the ocular Symbiote can increase the cast range of fungal and broodling, then it makes them much more viable.

That’s a fantastic addition because they currently lack utility outside of a not fungal growth, I find their main purpose is to avoid the hassle of making overseers but having a unique buff makes them a much better all-around unit.

Brings back memories of me sniping siege tanks in SC1. The nostalgia… and then I remember being hit by plague… the most rage inducing move in all of SC1

Kind of but with more specific number.

For example: every unit of distance travelled will regenerate energy by 2.

If the Queen move a distance equal to siege tank attack range (13), it will regenerate 26 energy on top of its innare regeneration.

That seems over-complicated. Why not just give an energy regen buff to queens when Occular Symbiote is casted on it.

This way, it promotes the use of this ability. The buffed ability from previous discussion gives them an edge to cast period. And they detect.

It’s a win win.

I figured folks were going for micro. Which if it was like the change to Wraiths (NOT something I approve of, but oh well)

Wraiths require you to constantly control the wraiths. For queen, u can just set them to patrol to regenerate energy or use 1 click to move them right back to base.

The only method that is better than this is having a research that +400% energy regeneration which is 8 times the current value.

Lol, so absolute, the only method that’s better.
