How to improve Raven's Interference Matrix

Interference Matrix
Disables a target unit rendering it unable to attack or use abilities for 11 seconds. Reveals Cloaked units. Can only target mechanical and psionic units.

With the description above, the ability is useful in TvT and to some extent to TvP. But generally speaking, the ability and the usefulness of Raven alone isn’t worth the cost of investment until Protoss begins DT or you want to do mid-game push and bring Raven to counter a couple of Colossi. Once Raven is sniped, it’s hard to replace with the tech tree not kinda allow you to and Protoss will have High Templar which can feedback your Raven with superior range (range 10)

Now I have mentioned this cuz I want to see it be more viable to use against Protoss in mid to late game while not having too much effect in TvT or TvZ.

Here is my proposed upgrade.

Research time: 57 seconds
Increasing the cast range from 9 to 10. When cast on Psionic units, it will deplete all shield and energy.


My proposed change makes the ability be very similar to Ghost’s EMP but in different way of how it should’ve worked. I see this as a significant change to the ability so I gate it with the upgrade. I don’t feel like gating it behind Fusion Core is a good idea so I put it on the tech lab.

The reason behind this is to make the unit and the ability be more impactful when you don’t open with ghost on the tech tree or playing mech. This is useful when you cast it on Archon or High Templar to deplete all their shield and energy. I don’t find this affect TvZ as Raven can be easily sniped and there are only Infestor, Queen and Viper affected from this. It can be used for sure, but still not as worth as in TvP. TvT has little effect as Terran players generally don’t use Ghost in TvT until nuke late-game.

I don’t see this as an overlapping to Ghost’s EMP Shockwave, but more of alternate choice instead of the core tech. It just gives the players more option to use in other matchups with Raven mid to late game.

This is my suggestion for the Raven which I want to see it more used in other matchups outside of TvT and not only for one-time build like it currently is in the meta.

I don’t see a point to this ability because why would you produce a raven for this ability when you can make a ghost, you need the starport for liberators. I mean I guess you MIGHT see more 2 base raven tank pushes against Protoss, but then itll delay your push because your medivacs are delayed so you can get the upgrade. I just dont see a point to this upgrade. It’s literally the same exact ability as EMP. Also are people still using HT in PvT lol. The EMP buff is absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary, before EMP was a perfect counter for HIGH TEMPLAR, now it’s a counter to the entire protoss army, terran whiners are an absolute joke.

Raven is fine, but yeah when the unit isn’t an utterly broken imba unit, TCF asked for buffs.

Overpowered. IM can already disable most Protoss and Terran units; and all of its potential targets except SCVs, Probes, and Observers are at least 2 supply.

This is more than enough to justify IM’s energy cost and the use of Ravens in many cases (particularly rushes when there are fewer targets). If there is any match-up where IM is lacking it is TvZ, but only because it is limited to 3 useful targets (Infestors, Vipers, Queens), not because the effect is in any way too weak when you actually use it in that match-up.
