Hi all, took me over 20 consecutive games to beat a 7 gate chargelot build as terran.
With foreknowledge at the start of each game, knowing its comming, I could not hold with any bio build.
I opted for two mag stab cyclones and two turrets to push the prism away from areas my main army could not reach, into mutliprong banshsee and then battlemech +mines
My question is, how on earth would any terran, without the foreknowledge of knowing that the build is coming from his opponent from time zero, counter this build upon scouting it, assuming they opened normally (bio).
If I understand you right, you speak about chargelot build, where protoss fly into your main with prism and 4 chargelots inside and warp 8 more at ±5:00.
I wouldn’t trade the reaper for a probe and left it alive. This will let you scout that protoss has 0 workers on gases, because he stops collecting the gas after starting the charge upgrade.
As of counter to that build, you only need to destroy the prism and there is no better way to do that, than to build 2 vikings and put them on patrol in the airspace around your main.

Yes, and it was executed by a former GM (now master 1). It seemed like a bio killer.
how to know a protoss is going for 2 base 8 gates prism chargelot?
- at around 2:30, you spot a twilight council in protoss’s base
- 3:30, you spot that protoss is not mining gas at all <<< at this point i am 90% sure he is going for 8 gates chargelot with prism
- 4:30 you spot that protoss does not build his third expansion, and he is building tons of gateways
how to defend?

if you go for 2 widow mines drop you must keep the mines and medivac alive so that you can harass protoss mineral line again and again
protoss would not have much gas to build stalkers, and all of his minerals would be used on producing zealots
however, normally your drop ship would set off from your base at around 4:30, when your medivac find that protoss is going for 8 gates chargelots, you would have only a few seconds to position your army at your base. therefore, you must keep calm not to mess up yourself

you should have 3~4 marines patrolling the edge of your main (widow mine and viking are also good at sniping the prism)
-
your barracks rally point should be set to the ramp of your main, unless you manage to wall off your natural expansion
-
it would be easier to retreat from your natural expansion, pull your works back to the ramp and press ‘H’ for hold command to abuse the AI of zealots
