So if you check how many million copies of SC2 and brood war sold (plus skins, voices etc), an eventual SC3 would bring considerable profit!
So the question is why not? they don’t have and RTS dev team that would be on the level to tackle such a project (as most of that dev team left) ? or just other games are easier to make and bring even more profit?
It’s not a question of how much money SC3 could make; It’s a question of whether it could make more or even close to what another game could make with same time and money invested or perhaps even less investment.
Look, there’s pretty clear indications that Blizzard is working on something involving the StarCraft franchise and that they see value in putting something into it. Both games were added to gamepass and word of development on a StarCraft shooter is gaining traction. They’re also investing a little into the Warcraft RTS games, although I can’t say I’m impressed with the AI upscaling and other features introduced so far. Also, the Warcraft stuff is mostly focused on little improvements, not brand new designs.
I wouldn’t expect an actual SC3 anytime soon. And honestly, I’m not too confident with how much I’d enjoy a new StarCraft that follows the current gaming trends. I’d rather they invested in further fixes for the current games once the Warcraft RTS team has less on their plate.
If the new team manages to finally get WC3R to an acceptable state, it might mean good things for SCR and SC2. They’re definitely not there yet but here’s hoping.
