How many games did it take you to get to diamond?

I am just curious because I am platinum and I am curious if I am improving slowly or fast. I have 2.5k games and feels like I should have been diamond if not masters already :frowning:

PS. I am asking about the number of total games you played including separate accounts and the total games you may have played few years ago before a long break.

Answer to diamond in 1v1 (because I’m unsure if ure talking about solo or team games):

Depends individually on the person. When HOTS was released back in 2013 I was diamond in EU like after 20-30 games and it was my first diamond 1v1. When I started playing in US and the stats are separated there I just reached diamond as far as I remember in 6 or 7 games. I don’t remember my total games but I at the very beginning I played mostly on team games so I could have around 1000 games or more but when I started to play solo games it wasn’t that long to reach diamond.

Just learn some openers and have knowledge about some build orders so you know how to prepare from enemy. Then you need just a bit of micro (not really much for diamond if you will focus properly on other things) and don’t be scared to expand. That’s it I guess. You can also go easy way which is 1 base all-ins to low diamond they definitely works but you need to focus a bit on micro when you choose this route.

It took me about 700 games to get old diamond back in wol, I started from zero at bronze 98, my only knowledge about rts were single player campaigns and playing without any kind of hotkeys, I had no idea about multiplayer RTS and jumped directly into the sc2 one, the first 100 games were a wild ride, lost 30 games in a row, won one while offracing and then lost another 10-15, then I started winning some games until I got a nice 19 win streak, I was getting 1 point per win, then lost one game and lost all my points, lost about 24-25 points.

My improvement rate was low, just played about 4-5 games per day and didn’t follow serious builds until I was plat. Reaching ranks is mostly wanting to be that rank, and practice, I sometimes reached high diamond, but every time lost interest in practicing more to get into master, too much grind and I’m not skilled enough to become better while playing few games.

I don’t actually know that anymore. I think it was 1k games until platinum league and another 2k games until diamond.
I coached at least 4-5 people to diamond and that took them about a year (bronze to diamond).

I have about 3K 1v1 games under my belt to get to diamond 2. However to be honest, the biggest gains came after I started watching vids on youtube on how to play properly. Had i started with that I figure I could have been diamond 2 after maybe 300 or 400 games.
Go figure that someone simply explaining the game and how to win can cut out a lot of unnecessary pain and suffering.

Every person is different, and learns at a different pace. It took me… longer than I’d like to admit. About 4.5k games to make it to diamond. I had the game knowledge - that’s something you learn by watching, by playing and experimenting, but my hands and my decision making didn’t happen fast enough.

Decision making is the other faucet. In a game of imperfect information, you make do with what you with the information you have. Hindsight is 2020 as they say, but ultimately nobody ALWAYS makes the right decisions. Not Serral, Stats or Maru.

But you’ll make it there! The important thing is to enjoy the game as you play. Don’t worry about winning or losing, just on having fun.

I got to D3 on EU with around 60 games (I was placed in gold 3 with my placement games).I played Terran, but I play different types of strategy games and my understandings for the game are solid for the time I played the game.

Before I started I did like 1 month of research ,studying the meta, watching pro replays, watching low elo replays, how players think, tourtnaments, timings of each race, how players like to cheese, where they put proxy’s ,etc.

Then I started playing the game and that helped me a lot. This will always come at the first place, understanding of the game and reading what your opponent want’s to do,and how you gonna react to it.Micro and macro is going to come with the more games you play.

My advice would be focus on your macro and you will win most of the times (if you are ahead). Btw what race r u playing ?

It took me 600-700 games to reach Diamond and it was a while ago. I haven’t played much since then though, I’m still below 800. I still come to the forums to remind Terran players that I don’t like them, however.

Batz is the 5k version of that.

I don’t know exact noumber of games but it was about 3 seasons than i started to play on and off and it took hots exp to reach masters.

People tend to talk that balance patches does not affects us but trust me there wore multiple patches that i didn’t feel like playing cause my race started to feel like s…t just like right now in lotv i can’t win anything so i stopped playing and wait 4 them to buff Toss and not little bit this time i expect ā€œMEGAā€ buff.

I started as silver. Ended gold in my first season. Made plat 2nd season. Diamond 3rd season. Think I got masters in my 5th season. Dont remember as I’ve played off and on for years (gaps of over a year as well) which take its toll. What fascinates me more is that my top team race and top 1v1 race are two different things entirely. And the skill difference is extreme

I think it’s more on how often you play than how many games. If you play like 5 games a month but have 6k games, you probably won’t get as far as someone who plays 30 games a month but only has 2k games

I started to play in 2016, it took me around 500 games.

First time was in 2011, it was the highest league then before they added Masters. Then in LotV I regained it in 2018 after similar 200 wins and then solidified my stay, took me some time as I was playing on and off in HotS and early LOtV with several month pauses. What a year I chose 2018, when I had to play with 30% WR vs Toss.

Protoss was straight favored vs T back then. Now we switched roles in situation, or did we? It is closer to equal match than UP for toss

I like that you took a general question and used it as an opportunity to remind people to buff Terran.
Typical socialist.

lol I dont like commies that mask under the name socialists. No, im saying f-off with the ā€˜Protoss is UP cant beat terran’ threads, not ā€˜buff terran vs toss’

Bless you then, fren. Commies aren’t people.

It took me one day of turture to reach diamond. I was Gold 1 and faced only diamonds ! So after 20 games I figured out how to play like the other diamonds and " ROAD ROLLER DA!" through Plat so im sitting now at diamond 3.

I played the first 1.5k or so games as terran and I started as a complete beginner. After a while playing with a single race started to get boring so I switched to random and I always tell which race I get at the beginning of my games so that my opponents play their usual styles. I still get cheesed a bit more than usual as some people don’t believe me even though I always tell the truth. So to your question, I play all races now.

I want to believe that playing 3 races slowed me down but I know that it’s an excuse and it feels like my total 2.5k games is too much to be stuck at plat. Hearing some saying that they did it in a few hundred games is not encouraging me at all

took me about 1k games with no previous competitive rts experience, but that was back in wol, its probably harder now…

if you really just want to rank up, start watching your replays closely and see what you are doing wrong, are you behind on workers? are your expansions late? do you have decent map vision and scouting?

the game is more figured out now and it may be harder to get into diamond now than it was in wol, so that could be a big reason why it is taking you a bit longer.
