How long will be Coop alive?

I just thinking. Was it worth for Lizzard add to Coop Hard ++++ stupidities? (nothing else just auto-load of mutations) I wanna see stats how many players playing Harder Coop missions! Is not better idea to rework a attacking waves (more often + stronger, or some small undetected ambushes, or random Hybrids, more entranched positions, some new units, etc…) ?? And what about new maps and add a funciton to veto old boring crappy maps? They let it die as Versus. Also prestige system is funny, but its a very small change for game!

Impossible to say. Player base seems pretty steady for now. I typically get placed in a match in Brutal random que in less than 5 seconds.

Even with lower difficulties, or a specific map the placement is 10-15 seconds tops most of the time.

I think it can last multiple years.

For as long as SC2 as a game will be alive for, considering this is one of their few microtransaction/DLC in this game to make a profit from.

I hope they will work on it often to keep it alive.

There are more people now coming back since prestige, especially on hard and brutal. (I took casual and normal when I got new commanders gift, but I was almost always matched with hard players, wich wasn,t the case 4 years ago).

The thing wich is scarying is they seem to work less and less on it. Except the prestige for the special 10 years:

  • There were 4 commanders a year in 2016/2017

  • Then only 2 commanders a year in 2018/ 2019

  • 0 in 2020 (maybe covid didn’t help, or maybe it was planned like this)

  • There were 5 maps at start

  • There were 5 new maps in 2016

  • There were 4 new maps in 2017

  • There was only 1 new map in 2018 (like in june, something like that)

  • There were nothing in 2019

  • There were nothing in 2020.

So less and less commanders for new gameplay, no more maps, so we all play 9999999 times each map instead of more variety.

It seems they are letting it die, except for special 10th anniversary. Maybe we will get something for the 15th anniversary or the 25th SC1 anniversary, but since they don’t work on new things except in those events, it won’t last.

I hope they will do more to keep it alive!

At least the Devs haven’t abandoned the co-op yet, that’s a good thing. But as Jyveks said above there will be less updates and contents in the future.

I don’t think Blizzard will abandon Starcraft 2 Co-op but keep it just enough to barely live.

Co-op will probably die once Age of the Empires IV comes out and steals Sc2’s thunder then Blizzard will finally get their ---- together and get to work on Starcraft 3.

Assuming age of empires IV takes over AoE 2 too, it has to be this good.

We live in a world were people prioritize graphics above everything despite how sad and wrong that is and Age of Empires IV has some godly good looking graphics for a RTS title.

In the long term it will still be around for anyone who still wants to play it. This is maintenance mode, no new content but still running after ceasing any and all development, just like how D2 and SC1 are now.

As far as new content in the near future goes…entirely different thing.

As long as they still update it. Prestiges were a great addition that make you tolerate the lack of new coms a bit.

Nevertheless many P need tweaks like Stukov P1 with istarport and ifactory not needing gas and giving back icc for itanks’s infested research but with non free zombies.

Swann’s P1 being totally reworked into something good and w/o messing with the freaking calldowns you HAD TO PAY anyways. The worst P ever.

Also another set of prestiges for all or at least most coms would greatly help coop. Swann with free supplies or having to build just the half and not being able to use tanks/thors/IP could be a new P.

Blizzard is being quite clever about doing a lot with a little. Prestiges were an ingenious way to squeeze a bunch more play value out of the existing commanders with minimal effort; I’m fairly sure the entire suite of prestiges was less work to implement than one new commander would be. (And I am not criticizing here–the game is 10 years old, the budget is what it is, and devs are not cheap.) Meanwhile the bulk of their efforts for 5.0 went toward the map editor, so the community has better tools to create new content on their own.

Sadly, I think the days of multiple new commanders a year are over. But with any luck, they can think up a few more ways to extend the life of coop on a limited budget.

That sounds “par for the course”

Early on, you need more content quickly to keep up momentum. It’s also more impactful going from the initial 5 missions, to 6 missions. Then from 6 missions to 7 missions, etc. Going from 15 missions to 16 missions isn’t going to make as big of a splash, other than we’ll make it into a much bigger deal since it’s been so long since we had a new mission.

Also, there’s GOTTA be a stopping point. We’re not going to have 1,000 maps. 15 seems to be as any good of a place to stop (if not arbitrary).

Also consider the monetization. New missions don’t bring in more money, and if COs really do require more level-of-effort than the entirety of Prestige, go figure why they choose this path.

TBF, the community has been like that too. We give Blizzard flak for going for the “low hanging fruit”, but I still see people posting when Blizzard will post sales on COs, bundling them, etc. They’re $5 apiece! I will acknowledge that people’s financial situations vary. I still like discounts as much as the next person, and go further back, I was more stingy with money. Still, don’t deny we also have the same mindset

The may need to allow us to apply skins to our coop commander armies, which would help drive skin sales. Which would in turn push in more resources to add free content such a news maps into the game.

For such company they are.

No. 50 maps is good place to stop.

It’s really hard to make any new updates when they can’t get any more money from this game. While some mobile games made $25m to $700m last year, I don’t know if SC2 could even make $100k. They can’t even pay the employees with that.

Until Blizz get a fever of greed and try to make some big money else where.

Considering co-op is the most popular mode in SC2 it will be around as long as SC2 is supported.

I’m still of the opinion that co-op has revealed a new genre that works so well (it’s a mix of RTS/ARPG) . If co-op became a standalone game it will be absolutely massive.

Otherwise if Starcraft 3 comes out, co-op needs to be the main mode. As it is the most popular and will pull the most players in.

I hope Blizzard learns from their mistake with DotA. Co-op could be massive if Blizzard plays their cards right. It’s a hidden gem ready to be awakened

What a silly question.

Coop doesn’t die, there are loyalists and there are traitors. And clearly someone needs a visit to the detention camp!

Are you joking, strategy games from 13 years ago look same/better…

Commissar, do your duty!

Real question is when will the developer stop updating coop. Coop mode will be here as long as sc2 is up.
