Can I loose my rank from inactivity?

Can I not loose my rank at all, but only the tiers within the rank?

I have been reading conflicting things online with no straight answer

You can lose your rank only, if you mmr is under league mmr range, at the of a season. By rank, i mean league, or tier. You will see, after a game red ! if your mmr dropped under your league-tier range

So I can’t loose the league I’m in such as gold or masters? Only my rank number, within that league? Only way to get demoted is to be under MMR range at the start of the following season, so next season you are a lower rank? So I won’t loose my new highest rank, and will get the achievement at the end of the season? haha

Yes, people don’t like demotion. It used to be, that you would get demoted, if your mmr dropped out of scope of your league. And you had to win a like 5 games vs master players in a row to get promoted, which was annoying for diamond players, which wanted to get masters. To breach diamond/masters barrier, you had to win couple times in a row vs master players. But in fact to get to masters, you had to only win 50% games vs masters and have higher win rates against people from your league. So they would get there without problem after awhile, but many people complained, which didn’t understand how mmr system works. And mmr was also hidden at that time. And when you are diamond it may seem difficult to win vs masters and takes awhile.

I actually like this system implemented today, the way it ended up. Thank you for your explanation in detail. Happy to know my new masters rank will stick so I get the achievement eventually haha… and I continue to play in that league without concern of loosing my place in it this season. Cheers

sorta, your mmr will get a soft reset if you are inactive (dont get placed) for awhile. like 2-3 seasons

you can lose MMR, and you can lose ladder points after you are out of bonus pool, not league/border

yes, assuming by “tiers” you mean ladder points which are pretty meaningless and left over by an old system years ago. btw “tier” is most commonly referring to t1, t2, t3 for each league

In summary, positive climbs are preserved. Your season ends with your highest achieved league. Any minimum MMR satisfied will bring you to that league. Your MMR can sink, and be similar to that of a lower league; thus matching you with the level below. However, your league remains the same until the end of the season (or until you climb up towards a higher league.

In this way, players are recognized for their peak achievements, rather than having to maintain the league.

If you go inactive for multiple seasons, you can lose your rank and MMR. In other words, if you don’t play the game at all for at least one year, this will happen.

No, once you hit your rank for that season, you keep it no matter how much you tank your MMR.

You will not lose anything, except when the season ends and if your MMR is below the normal lower cap. Ex: if you’re M1 with 4k mmr and the season ends, you will finish with M1, but you will start at D1 once you start laddering in the new season.

^^This is the straightest answer.

To put it simply, it doesn’t work at all.

I think it is fine. Most multiplayer games do this nowadays to avoid ladder anxiety, and I see little downside to it. If you want to track your improvement MMR is all you need.
