How do Lurkers attack?

Do they use their arms and make them shoot out like Crypt Lord tendrils or do they actually protrude their neck and head and their horn is the one shooting out?

To attack, lurkers emit waves of super-dense spines against their enemies, having a full width of damage of ten meters.[[5]]https://starcraft.fandom.com/wiki/Lurker

However, lurkers must actually burrow underground to release these subterranean attacks. Any warriors on the surface who are caught by these spines are instantly impaled.

but where do these spines come from? is it from their arms or from their back?

Given that their back has a whole bunch of spines on it, I would assume the back.

It is, amusingly, canon that nobody knows.

The wiki says this:
“The spines have rarely been seen above ground, and it is unclear to many terrans where the spines actually come from in the lurker’s body, although some strains can shoot spines from their frontal legs while above ground.”
The source for that last part is a comic from 2019 (StarCraft: Soldiers: Issue 2).

But in general the answer is: Nobody knows.
There is an artist though who illustrated his theory (and it’s the best one I have heard of so far, even if it might still be a bit weird):

I love that illustration. Its very interesting and probably the closest answer we have to something that works.

Lurkers are burrowed while attacking, so nobody can see how they actually do it.

this one really helps! thanks!

Amazing art, the “Spider” concept had me dying.

Why not ask the “Godfather” of Starcraft, the depositary of Arcane Knowledge and the Uber-Zerg (that losses to 4500MMR Protoss in long-macro-games)…BatZ?
He has opinions about everything -expert in meteorology, global-climate, mathematics, physics, military doctrines, political sciences, psychology (that he calls a bogus science) economy etc etc.
He would shed some light about the mystery of Lurker’s spines.

I’m afraid, the only thing he knows about Lurker’s spines is that they’re underpowered and need to be buffed ASAP.

i think the “spine” is their… you know what… johnson, member, phatdongofmassivedamage

Thats an interesting graphic. But it makes no sense on how he thinks the spines work. In his drawing the spines lay on the arm and aim backwards, to the lurker. If they aim backwards there is no way to make them shoot up. To make it work they have to face forward, toward the enemy. They should lay close to the arm while borrowing through the earth and then, when the lurker spreads them away from the arm, they automaticaly pop out of the ground. Thats the only way it could work.

I mean if we want to ask questions that don’t really matter, how do marines never run out of ammo?

They resupply whenever they walk past a supply depot.

If they don’t…I guess they pick up ammunition from their dead comrades.
