How Do I React To An Early 3rd Base Zerg

I absolutely agree, I’m just saying it’s possible, not that it’s a thing you should do.

Probably not worth the time, you have to micro and Z can just use a move and continue macroing, and if you are not a pro, you probably will lose some macro seconds and will not achieve anything important with the block.

When he said early, I thought he meant in the 150s, so yea this is a normal build. Had not yet checked out the BO.

2:30 3rd is pretty normal. You need to have a clear plan of what to do if you choose to play out a macro game without disrupting your opponent: If you open Twilight or Robo, you need to make sure you have plenty of Adepts to defend your 3rd, as it is very standard for Zerg to attempt to deny your third with a respectable number of lings. If you open Stargate you can help defending the 3rd with Oracle, so make sure you don’t lose your first one even if you end up not doing any damage with it: the fact that it forces Spore and more Queens is sufficient. I’ll edit this post when I watch the replay later for more details, but looking at your army graph I think the 7:30 severe supply block is what killed you, you were floating 1.6k/500 at that supply block and more afterwards when you didn’t lose any production facility. Up to that point, you were keeping up at resource collection and did not have any major losses.

I think the issue is much more macro oriented on your end, Supply Block and then probably trying to micro killed your production cycles, very very hard.

Now you mention, it, that’s right, his resource management looks bad from the data, not spending enough resources and then a high bank at minute 6-8.Will check the replay but looks like not enough warps due to supply block or bad macro.

I just watched the replay. This is standard zerg opener so there is nothing specific to do. 1 thing that I have noticed is that you are delaying buildings so that you will not pull a probe off of mining (using rally points to build). This means that your entire build order is delayed, and since you continue to do it, it snowballs each time on top of compounding from the first time. Also, don’t put your tech in the wall. Make the zerg work to figure out what you are doing. I think if you start robo, you need to go into robo bay into colossus or disruptor. Unless, you want to hit the immortal sentry timing at like 5-6 minutes.

If they have no gas taken and it’s a fast 3 hatch it’s considered greedy and you should be able to punish them with double adept harass. There is no way to get an easy win but I do like sometimes to throw down a fake 3rd nexus and then all in with a 3 immortal sentry stalker push at like 6-7 mins.

Ling speed was done ~3:30, 3rd hatch was ~2:30. This is not a 3 hatch before pool and/or gas build. If you use the linked SC2 replay stats and just scroll along the time graph you can see most of the build order stuff.

With that said, I agree with you, if I see a Zerg skipping ling speed, I would just drop multiple gateways and just kill his mineral line with Adepts.

Tech. Pick your favourite flavour.

Watched the replay, your build hurt you.Srated with robo, making a really fast inmortal, unit which is expensive (1 inmo=2 gateways=1/2 nexus) and at that stage of the game does nothing unless there is a roach rush, then made a warprism that wasn’t used.At minute 6 you start putting some extra gateways but you got supplyblocked and I think you missed some warp ins, like having 7-8 gates and just warping 4-5 units. When you are about to get attacked, you must warp first the HT in pairs, and then spend all the warps into chargelots,if you don’t do that, then your warp rounds become really weird.I think you had time enough to get a couple of archon more some more zealots.Another thing you missed was extra pylons on your third, and a couple of batteries.Extra pylons are for reinforcements during fights, you could have done it but you only had one pylon, warped in late and your nex was destroyed leaving you witha slow warp round.Another thing you must do is transforming depleted HT into archons as soon as possible, and if you warp new HT and you are about to fight, transform them into archons because they won’t have enough energy for storms if the fight is about to start.

Now check how the fight started

-12 zealots, very few considering you should have 8 gates.
-2 sentries,ok,guardian shield is useful
-2 adepts, meh
-2 archon, good
-7 stalkers, terrible units at that stage of the game and against that composition, so you have around 1,1k useless resources on that fight.
-3 inmos, not the best against hidra ling but they are beefy and can deal damage
-5 ht, 3 of them arrived late to the party, you landed the storms when your zealots were already dead.

Half of your army was bad and out of position and the good part wasn’t used at its full potential (zealots and archon charging from multiple points while storming the hidras).you choked yourself by fighting there. To defend that nexus, put units on the right side of the nexus and on the ramp, that way you can get a nice angle while being able to warp units behind you and get extra shields from batteries, if you stay at the ramp, enemy can go up and reach your probes and hit your nex.
