Well before BW they were the United powers league, i’m usually too lazy to read the terran lore but now that i’ve bothered holy crap how did NONE of this material get used in Starcraft 2? Ethnic cleansing, facism dictatorship, apparently all the terran factions in the koprulu sector were started by some guy just throwing random prisoners’ into space to colonize. Apparently after losing in BW the UED just gave up entirely on the sector and they weren’t affected whatsoever by the fact that the zerg was the dominant faction of Koprulu.
As it turns out Kerrigan had 0 intentions of spreading her forces anywhere else, never invaded the solar system (at least within the games), and the entire world of starcraft conveniently revolves around this one pocket of space when we’ve already established that earth exists. Even Amon has 0 interest in invading the solar system even tho he wants to be the master of everything. Imagine a world where we have to defend earth or something, idc if it’s cliche it would be cool just to see the universe EXPANDED.
You have a point there. But the UED expedition had to succeed. They literally couldnt report back to earth that they had failed. And you can’t blame Amon for dodging the UED. He was focused on Kerrigan and the zerg because they were clearly the bigger threat. The UED threw EVERYTHING at the zerg and Kerrigan and still lost. The zerg were so powerful they destroyed Amon and all the Xel’Naga. The zerg could have CRUSHED the UED. But you’re right they could have delved deeper into all of that in SC2. Maybe they will in SC3.
UED was decimated at the end of Brood War, Kerrigan did not spare a single vessel.
The only reference of UED in Starcraft 2 is Stukov who was resurrected as Zerg for obvious reasons (he is RUSSIAN) and USA loves to nuthugg Russia/Soviet Union
If the whole point of them attacking the koprulu sector was to prevent being invaded by the zerg or protoss, then them failing or them never getting word back from their fleet should throw them into a panic.
… Yes. the E in UED stands for Earth. Which is in a radically different spot of the galaxy than the Koprulu Sector, where the story takes place. That basically prohibits them from showing up as anything other than a main story event.
If I recall correctly, Stukov mentions in passing that the UED is still out there and one day might return or need to be dealt with… sounds to me like Blizzard was acknowledging them and leaving a small clue as to a possible future story thread. They just weren’t part of SC2’s story. They can come back and be addressed in the future (if the franchise has a future…)
