As a fellow player, I’ve been thinking about the importance of hotkeys in our gameplay. We’ve seen aim training tools for other games, but no dedicated hotkey trainers for SC2.
I’m considering creating a community-driven hotkey trainer tool for SC2 players to improve their skills. Would you be interested in using such a tool? Any suggestions or features you’d like to see?
Looking forward to hearing your opinions on this idea!

There is a tool for it. It is called Co-op. Everybody can train the hotkeys there, without having the pressure from opponent.
Not sure what do you want us to do in the last paragraph? Spam the threads?
He wants to have a conversation with us. People usually do talk and discuss. However, I see you definitely never learned that skill🙂.
Well, you have a chance to amaze me with your discussion skills. Maybe you have a great idea of such a program, because my experience with “training maps” for micro and macro didn’t bring me anything in the real game. They were a challenge, but not really a training.
Have you looked into Arcade maps?
I’m not sure what you want, but if it doesn’t already exist, maybe you should find the maps that are similar or could be described by similar keywords/concepts, and explain how what you want is different?
I can think of a program that commands you what you have to click on keyboard, and you have to quickly and precisely do it. You would be able to increase speed and frequency of commands showing up. It would increase coordination and make your game cleaner.
I’am cheering for you in your idea. There are some training maps but they’re pretty randomly made, and the case of doing and using them never got a decent amount of attention.
I played counter strike and I can’t imagine having a good aim without using a map made to master it.
It would not. As someone who uses all combinations of ctrl + N, alt + N, shift + N, shift + alt + N, shift + ctrl + N I can tell you, that such program will not help you. Even if I will not play for few months, my hand would still be able to execute all of them, without me remembering them, because all you need is a muscle memory. All you need to train that is to repeat that particular command many, many, many times. It will result in your muscles memorizing the move that will help you to press ctrl + 7 with left hand without looking at the keyboard, because your muscles know exactly how much they need to travel for reaching 7 and when you will need to use it, they will do it instantly.
What you suggest is the reaction time program. Where you have to realize, which button you need to press and then press that one button very fast. In sc2, all hotkeys are preset and never change, so your idea will not help your muscle memory, only reaction time. The equivalence of cs aim maps would be maps for marine split or micro tournament, which do indeed improve your reaction time and micro, which is mostly memory.
I see your point that the major part of player skill is repeating the same actions. And I think it applies to build orders, you do it always the same it’s a rotine.
However as the game starts to progress, you need to adapt and recognize what’s happening, there is no longer muscle memory that will do the job for you. You need to be versitale and ready to perform actions you’ve never done before. That’s why you need quality hand eye coordination, like a basketball player shooting of the dribble while jumping backwards, that can be precise by feel while thinking about finding space between defenders.
Memorisation and gaining experience in performing a skill are two different things.
However, we are mostly just guessing, because neither you nor I have tried such a program. So I can’t tell that you’re wrong by saying it wouldn’t help at all.
I just see more opportunities and potential in it than you do.
There are 0 situations in the game, in which I don’t know which keys I have to press. My hotkeys are deterministic: 1 for main army, 2 for mothership, 3 for phoenixes, 4 for ht, disruptors, 5 nexuses, 6 production, 7 observer, 9 oracles, 0 prism (9 and 0 on the mouse side buttons). And I would never use 2 or 4 for phoenixes for example, they are always 3, so there is no situation, where I do not know which buttons I have to press in ANY situation.
What you are talking about is micro. Micro is very intuitive, situation depended and requires very fast reaction. However, hotkey program will not help you in that. You need micro training programs, like micro tournament and other maps for micro control, not for hotkeys.
