Heroic units for zerg and terran?

Saw this video. Its interesting. Do you think they should revisit bringing back heroic units for zerg and terran in multiplayer?

I would say no. Individual hero units don’t really fit into StarCraft’s design. That is true whether you are referring to units that can “level” or units that are limited to 1 of a type at any given moment.

No. Personally I don’t think that heroes work with the way sc2 is built. Heroes have a tendency to be to strong or to weak and are notoriously hard to balance. They had trouble balancing one of them in the MS, I can only imagine how much trouble it would be to add 2 or 5 more (2 more air, or 3 more ground and 2 more air)

As I recall, there were some other hero units that were experimented with early in development. This was during the alpha when the Mothership had some ridiculously powerful abilities and they played around with similar idea for Queens and maybe some other units that would be limited to one at a time. None of those ended up making it far and the Mothership’s abilities kept getting changed until it finally ended up having more in common with the Arbiter from Brood War.

Obviously, they’re not going to be designing any brand new units for SC2 given the lack of an actual development team. If it was within the current scope of the game I still don’t think the concept fits SC2 competitive play very well. It doesn’t work to have a unit with full-on heroic abilities because of how much it throws balance off and a unit like what the Mothership ended up as is too easy to focus down, especially after using an ability like Abduct.

Yea. I think they would be cool, but this is pretty much one of the primary reasons cited in the video. I could convince a world were SC2 had a fundamentally different multiplayer and it could work. But the way things are with this one. This is of course assuming there was still a dev team which there isn’t.
