Han & Horner Unit Comp

After doing a bit of research, I see alot of people promoting mass reaper with some hellions mixed in ( discounting Horner’s Starport units, since they are good all around except the Vikings ). Personally I do not get it: 100 minerals for 235 hp Hellbats seems amazing to me, especially since they tank and draw fire away from those precious galleons and air units. Additionally, on those higher difficulties, you do not run the risk of your entire army getting wiped by a psi storm (my poor Mengsk troopers…) with Hellbats, since they do not stack well and have so much hp.

I also think they have great synergy with the mini yamato gun upgrade, since the Hellbats just about melt anything that it would be overkill on, leaving those high hp targets for the Battlecruisers to blast away. I literally only make 4 reapers to start, and then dump minerals into Hellbats. Am I missing something here? Yeah, the charges are great damage, but the auto cast often misses, and 1 or 2 aoes if you are a non unit splitting noob like me means all those reapers are dead.

I guess the reapers can fly, but then you have stuff like parasitic bombs too, and I have never had a problem with anti air between the wraiths and Battlecruisers.

Because the reapers can stack up when flying, they get very high damage density/output.
With hellbats or hellions, your damage output is so low, the extra survivability is kinda irrelevant.

Also, reapers are fast, so that can help sometimes.

Deimos Vikings bad? I don’t know, man.

Wut? Deimos Vikings are amazing even in their ground form – they can do line splash and have bonus against armor. I honestly see more out of using them over Strike Fighters.

It REALLY depends upon the map and enemy composition. Generally speaking, mass Reaper on the Han side of the army is going to be the go-to. Sometimes Widow Mines are useful, and Hellbats are good against anything with Banelings or explosive infested.

Reapers have excellent DPS vs objectives and the hellions are only really there for the death effect. I tend to mix in some hellbats for most zerg comps and infested. Plus since the reapers can fly they wreck some of the ground comps. You do need to micro them, so fly-destroy-retreat works well. They’re definitely not A-move units vs the updated Brutal comps.

  1. DPV(Damage per volume) is high when reaper fly.

  2. Raven can bonus 3 damage per hit which equals a 3 level damage upgrade.

I think a big part of the problem is that Reapers can do pretty much anything the Hellbats can, and have their own advantages on top of that.

With reapers only, you’re basically ignoring every enemy unit that can’t attack air. And they autoheal!
Hellbats are good when you need to tank on the ground for the sake of defending an objective.

Autoheal is big, especially for a “tanking” unit like the hellbat… outside of large burst/aoe reapers are better tankers because they autoheal, the hellbats will get chipped away (plus they are slow)

I mean, they autoheal only out of combat. On Miner Evacuation or during night on Dead of the Night reapers won’t be very useful cause they die to infested too fast and hellbats can hold the line for long enough.
Reaper are good for tanking on offensive maps where their role is to jump into the air and draw enemy attention away from Galeons and Horner’s fleet, they survive till fight is over, autoheal and proceed to the next fight.

Why are you keep saying hellbats are slow? They have the same speed as reapers after upgrade if I remember right.

Every body knows that the best comp for H&H is mass hellions/hellbats + a few vikings. Anything else is just boring elitist play. :supervillain:

Zombie maps are really really fun with those guys on the ground.

I want more zombie maps.

The units I hate are widow mines. Burn them in hell. Hate them even in zombie maps.

I think we generally need more defensive missions, but yeah, those Vikings are really tearing it on Dead of Night and Miner Evacuation.

But not more Temples of the Past. Dear goshdarnit I hate that map.

I don’t know, it’s one of my favorites.

Well, I’m being a bit overdramatic, it has its fun parts, but it’s just too open from every side for me, and defense-wrecking comps make it frustrating.

Maybe if it had zomb— okay okay, I’ll be quiet :stuck_out_tongue:

Hellions aren’t worth making except in the early game. Once you have the economy to support it, mass Reapers with Ravens is the only ground unit comp worth making for H&H. The way you spend your gas and the air units you make is more debatable, but Helbats, Hellions and Widow Mines all suck in a vast majority of situations compared to mass Reaper.

Not if you get the reaper speed upgrade.
