Goals in starcraft? When to quit?

I am in great spirits today. I have had a longstanding goal in SC2 1v1 on the ladder which I just reached. Now with the major changes in the patch coming up (I’m not looking forward to dealing with cloaked widow mine harass for 6 months) I think its my time to go out on top. I’ll still watch the pros play on line but I think I no longer need to put myself through the nerve racking experience on a daily basis which is the SC2 ladder. It’s about time I took a long long long break.

What about you guys? Are you planning on playing indefinitely or do you too have some arbitrary goal which is a stopping point (ie new peak league, 10,000 games, mastering a specific strat, peak high winrate vs a certain race? etc etc)? When will be the point when you finally hang it up?

I play SC2 when I want to get high on adrenaline and my brain is not too tired from work.

I play something else when I want to relax

As for goals, I really want to get into Master league, but I probably won’t stop playing when I get there

I play SC2 mostly out of nostalgia tbh
somtimes i watch old sc2 videos and they put me in the mood to play again but I just screw around not taking it too seriously.

Ill quit the game if they keep Protoss in this broken state, I don’t wanna deal with so many op timings and broken storm anymore

I play because it’s fun.At the moment it stops being fun, I stop playing. My only real goal in starcraft was getting the dark voice/reaper achievement, and I did it a long long ago. Now my goal is playing without trying really hard to enjoy the game better.

10 years… sure with big pauses but im looking for other games . War3 could have been revived into new big RTS by just remastering it right but they did pewp on it. So im looking for some other hard mode type of games since RTS is ded, like fighting games

Then actually you need to wait no more than 24 hours if you know what I mean…

I’ve decided to stop this season. I’m currently at the new M1. The main reason why I stopped is because there are certain matchups that are absolute garbage (pvp). You pretty much have to check yourself and make sure you don’t go crazy over this game. If you find yourself raging after every game, then it’s time to step back. If you still can’t enjoy the game after stepping back, it’s probably best to quit and play casually or not at all. I took a 2 month long break, and I still hate 1v1 ladder. What I’ve decided to do is just play team games and enjoy ruining other people’s days rather than my own (because the team ladder system is broken). It’s great to reach your goal and then quit, but I would also prioritize your mental health over reaching that goal.

Quit if you aren’t having fun. If you need so much willpower to open up the Starcraft program, do yourself a favor and don’t. It really doesn’t get any simpler than that.

At the same time, it’s a bit silly to jump to conclusion just from reading patch notes. Try it, if it is actually broken, wait out 6 months like your original plan. If it isn’t that bad, go back to paragraph 1.

SC2 is fun but in a different way than say playing crysis or final fantasy. There is this added layer of stress and and frustration that comes from SC2 because you’re interacting constantly with “crazy humans” and something of value is always on the line (your time, your beliefs, and your rank). There is seriously something called ladder anxiety and I have felt it (beastyqt has a whole thing on YouTube on how to deal with ladder anxiety) particularly when I’m doing well.

As for the patch, I’m not quitting because of the patch. I’m quitting because I hit my goals. It just happens to coincide with the end of the ladder season. I will let things play out for a few months, accomplish some other things in life, let the new patch meta settle and then re-evaluate. But overall I’m quite happy I reached my goal as I’ve been working on it for like almost a year and it has not been easy.

when i was 14 my goal was reaching gm… then who knows sky is the limit
from silver league i quickly made diamond in just 1 season, then masters after a few
but the game got frustrating,(2014 terran revolved around “just dont let them get there” and being a “macro bio” player i struggled a lot at the top of the ladder
as lotv was coming closer to release and some irl stuff coming up i decided to quit for the better, without reaching my goal
i “deleted” sc from my life but in the summer of 2018 i rediscovered it. it started by watching some old epic games but i promosed myself never to return. day by day i got closer to installing the game and eventually i did. i quickly grinded my way to 4500 mmr,and eventually last year i made 5500 and gm briefly. my goal was completed. i sometimes quit for 1-2 months or weeks or sometimes just for a couple of days, but i find myself coming back. altough this means i dont improve anymore, and i’m stuck at 5.5k. but the clock is ticking, being 20 now, university and work is coming, after this summer i probably will no longer be able to grind the game at all. i set a last goal, which would be reaching 6000mmr,but that’s kind of absurd
i wanted to make pro at one point, and i’m still hesitating, but i’m probably better off focusing on my life
gonna quit soon

I will quit when i get bored, but this will probably never happen. Playing vs. humans, changing races from time to time ,mixing team and 1 vs 1 … it is the last game which is remaining out of many from my teenager time and i am still addicted ^^. But i stopped watching esport yet - to painful my feeling that balance team is favouring terra again. Btw. best arcade gamen is … Monobattle !!!

One of the rare time I agree with PeekaChi

one can never get bored of balance whining though

I prefer the metagame of whining about whiners.

Hopefully soon so I don’t have to hear anymore of your diamond league balance whine.

I will probably quit once they give medivacs teleportation, so probably about 3 or 4 patches

im master 3 and no thats not because of the bug im 4.5k mmr and m3 is 4.4k
