Game ends after 6+ hours

I experienced that the game ends after lasting a certain amount of time.

After searching google for that bug i found this trivia on liquipedia:

“When the game timer reaches 2^15 game seconds (6 hours, 30 minutes, 6 seconds of real time on Faster) the game will automatically end as a loss for all players. It is speculated this is due to an overflow error on a signed 16-bit integer variable (which cannot express values larger than 2^15).”

(unable to post links here, the search was “starcraft 2 maximum game length” on google and it should be the first result)

There are some arcade games (especially a lot of RPGs) that could benefit from lasting longer than this hard limit.

if you are playing a match for 6+ hours straight, 1 your doing something wrong, and 2 you need a life.

They said arcade game, WKnight2.

dont matter thats way too long to be playing.

Many of those games can be saved and resumed because they can be played long term. Not all are 6 hours straight through.

Remember that the game can be put in windowed mode or minimized. It doesn’t necessarily means the player is stuck to the game without interruption for all the duration.

Anyway, the blame is shared between Blizzard for leaving that limitation, and map makers for making maps that can requires that much time for many types of players without a save system.

When SC2 was created, the Arcade didn’t exist so it’s likely that the original developers didn’t think 9 hours of (in-game) play time would ever be a restriction. Even after the arcade released, it’s possible they never intended/expected games to go for 9 hours.

But as to the OP’s request:

The game reached end of development a couple years ago so there won’t be any developmental changes to the core game going forward.
