Frequently matched against players two leagues above me

Hi!

I am a tier 1 Silver player, with around 2400 ish MMR. My last 10 - 20 games have been always against Gold Tier 1 - Plat Tier 2. I know as you progress the matchmaking system will pair you against stronger opponents so you can test your level, and if you win against them frequently get promoted. However, as I win around 50% - 60% of my games (each time against stronger opponents) my MMR remains pretty much the same, thus staying at the same league and tier.

I don’t understand how can I still be considered a silver player when all of my last games have been against Gold and platinum players. 90% of my games are being against people 3 - 5 tiers above me, and still I’m winning half of them at least. If I were matched against silver players most of the time I´d have won the points needed to get to gold, however i lose points and get back to the same spot, because each time i get a winning streak my opponents get harder and harder, but far beyond my league / tier. I understand being matched against Gold tier 3 -2 , but not Gold tier 1 or Plat tier 3. Any help on this?

its based on their mmr at the time you play them. They could be in a losing streak or a smurf that’s trying to lower their level for w/e the reason.

Basically, the game keeps trying to give you a 50% winrate, so it matches you up against harder opponents as you win more. If you beat them, then you probably will get promoted.

It’s a little hard to believe. If you win more than 50% versus people with 200-300 more MMR, than you gain more points. Also if you lose to the same people you drop less points compared with a loss to a Bronze.
If what you described is correct you only gain MMR and one day you will be promoted.

post the replay, or the madness will know no end.

Also, in order to be promoted two conditions should be met in the same time.

  1. You should surpass the minimum-MMR for the said League.
  2. Consistently (wining more than 50%) wining vs. the bottom of the League above you.

The fact that the algorithm is matching you with players beyond your Legue indicates that your promotion is imminent.

Good luck.

The game thinks you’re just that good, king

Maybe the fact that you can’t be demoted during a Season counts? I guess Gold (at NA) is full of strange people with ridiculous MMR.
It’s a player called “CDAS” - terran in Gold with…1149MMR.
This CDAS can’t be demoted and is stoping people that deserve to be promoted.

Starcraft has a lot of smurfs - people that are intentionally lowering their rank so that they can bully lower-tier players with gimmick builds. There’s also a lot of people that get into losing streaks as the meta changes and they get knocked down several tiers. Just keep at it and don’t worry about your rank going up or down, so long as you learn more and have more fun.

Losing streaks play a big role. Yesterday I lost almost 400 MMR. I played 25 games and won like 4. These things happen.

Big F. May your next adventure climbing the rank be more merciful.
