Processor: Intel Core i7-10700KF CPU @ 3.80GHz
Graphics card: NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3070 (8GB video memory)
RAM memory: 16.0 GB
Operating system: 64 bit
Refresh rate: 60Hz
Resolution: 1920x1080
FreeSync: OFF
I’m pulling my hair out to understand what’s wrong when I only put the game’s graphics setup on high!
Indeed, when I launch Co-op or multi 3v3/4vs4 I have significant drops in IPS when there are many units or powers launched.
Ps: forced to activate IG vertical synchronization otherwise image tearing.
The only way I have found to run the game without too much trouble in these two modes is on the “medium” graphics and “high” texture settings, with anti-aliasing OFF.
If anyone has a solution for me, believe me that I would be very grateful!
Sounds to me like a Windows/drivers/settings problem. But it could be SC2 related. Somewhere there’s a thread about running checks/fixes on the SC2 game, which you should try. Also, reset your video settings.
Then it’s things like reset drivers, check stuff isn’t running in the background, etc. Also, you did a clean Windows install after changing hardware, right?
A lot of is is pretty much true. Sometimes you need to run Scan & Fix on SC2, deleting your GameLogs files (C:\Documents\Starcraft II\GameLogs)
Other than that, try turning textures, shaders, and lighting down. SC2 is a jank game these days, and I had to run various settings at lower rates to play again without my computer bursting into flames around Stettman, Stukov, and Zagara. (And to a degree, Kerrigan.)
Check your Drivers to make sure they are all up to date. If your drive is a HDD and not an SSD, try running Disk Defrag.
Also check for viruses. Sometimes some like to be stealthy, but this is very rarely a cause.
Not to say its the exact issue, but with SC2 out of development for a while now its no longer being optimized for emerging tech. There a definite possibility that the newer the tech the worse it will perform. Theres always people posting fps issues here who have newer powerful setups.
I have a system whose tech is far older then yours and im able to run on ultra with about 40fps in heavy rendering moments (stetmann, stukov, zegara, 4v4…)
It is an already assembled PC tower, no upgrades have been made on it
All my drivers are up to date
Regarding the background elements, I never know which are useful and useless so I don’t touch…
To respond to Sprite:
Scan & Fix on SC2 it’s the “repair” tab in the launcher, it’s already done.
I have a 1TB SSD
No viruses either and sc2 has all firewall permissions.
To respond to Beast:
I think you’re right, my game runs total war warhammer 2 without any slowdown, I had read that sc2 only ran on one core!
One info I forgot to mention is that I’m using dragon center, it allows me to switch to high performance on mains power, but on or off I don’t see any difference.
Image tearing can indicate that a monitor that can’t maintain the framerate. It’s best not to use v-sync due to the performance hit.
Other points:
Check out some vids like this for things to try: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vwp1CVEtwFg
Make sure you’re not in windowed fullscreen.
Open task manager and alt-tab out of the game to see what else is using CPU while playing.
PCs from OEMs like Dell, HP, etc. have lots of crap on them, and some boutique builders even change BIOS & Windows settings to ones that hurt performance. See Gamer’s Nexus on YT.
MSI Dragon Center smells like crapware. Why would a desktop computer need to have different modes for mains power or not. Try without it.
P.S. Can you give some actual FPS figures along with actual settings screenshots?
Your config don’t seem inferior to mine, except maybe the screen and RAM (but I have too much of that objectively), so it make me curious.
Are you sure that you did connect your screen to your nvidia graphic card and not to an onboard GPU?
I would like to disable vertical synchronization … but the problem is that my GPU sends 500 fps non stop unnecessarily, I have image tearing in all directions.
I changed my screen from 60Hz to 170Hz going through all the possible refresh rates (with verical synchronization, no choice if not horrible for the eyes), but I still have slowdowns with a drop in fps.
• In the task manager what are the background “applications” that could take resource from my processor
• My PC is an msi … even before installing the game I deleted all unnecessary applications. For the bios I don’t have the slightest idea … track to follow even if I don’t know what to look at
• MSI Dragon Center, I have already tried without, nothing changes!
As soon as possible I will make a screen with fps and setup graphic
To respond to Undead:
In the graphics setup of the game at the top left it is well marked Nvidia RTX3070.
Also my CPU does not have a graphics chipset.
I’m not sure if it’s actually true, but I heard from a lot of people that SC2 engine just not designed to work with multithread processors, so the bottleneck is a single core performance and no matter what you do, when a really big amount of units hit the field (all player maxing out with small units in 4x4, or Stetmann mass infestor + Stukov mass Bunker/Zagara in coop) you’ll get a slideshow because the processor that can handle it literally doesn’t exist, all modern processors rely on multithreading for heavy tasks.
What I mean is that if your computer is set up like that one from MSI then it’s going to an early grave due to excessive overheating. Also, your single-core boost performance is limited by their stupidity. Did you watch the vid?
Yes i watch the video but i don’t speak very well English, I don’t understand everything he says.
The PC on the video does not seem to have water cooling.
My PC is the msi meg infinite x 10td 1040fr
I’ve checked the CPU IG temperature before and haven’t seen any excessive temperature rise there, so technically no CPU throttling.
That’s good news. To make sure, check the CPU under Task Manager - Performance while the game is in the background. Utilization should definitely be under 20% and speed @ 5.00 - 5.10 GHz.
