BLIZZARD MATCHMAKING LOGIC: Let’s pair this 6kmmr player witha 1 mmr player against two 3k mmr players. Basically team games matchmaking are 1v2’s if you are a high level player.
Broken matchmaking.

When there are only 4 players queued up for 2v2, thems the breaks.
THis, I actually several replays titled “1v2 meme.”
I kill 20 phoenix, 8 carriers, do ling run bys on terran opponent at same time, muta remax and took out all terran eco a second time and sacced corrtupers to piss on the protoss stargates and fleet beacon.
Enemy team pushes out with a relatively small handful of thors, tanks, blink stalks and archons…my ally still has no units (as terran) at the 8 minute mark. gg
This is typical btw, not a rarity.
Tbf StarCraft 2 has always been designed around 1v1 with team games as a sort of vestigial limb
Unfortunately the community fed this stupid ideology where team games aren’t serious as 1v1. When the reality is not even remotely close to that.
Bliztard doesn’t care. they never will care. 1v2 every game. It sucks. I lost 200 mmr today in 2v2. I guess I don’t get to win.
Blizzard openly balances only around 1v1 so it’s not just the community, it’s Blizzard.
GSL 2v2 isn’t a thing so… ¯_(ツ)_/¯
unfortunately being high ranked in team games also requires the ability to carry the team
This has nothing to do with these two factors:
1.) two people queue for a team on their own, and two people queue for a team together. All 4 people are in the same match.
2.) Four people queue up for random team. The average MMR is 3000, but team A has 2000 (bronze) and 4000 (masters). Team B has 3000 (diamond) and 3000 (diamond).
Now, can you see how each of these scenarios may be unfair for one team? I could understand if the queue surpasses 3 minutes, or hell, why don’t we get to select the max queue time before this nonsense happens. Games such as Halo have options to prioritize a quick queue versus a balanced set of teammates. Why is that not up to us? A lot of people who are annoyed by this have zero problem waiting 3-5 minutes for a game that is at least balanced MMR wise.
Fixing this would not be hard. Instead of the function basing it off of average MMR, it could just make a 5% plus or minus range of MMR maximum for each teammate. People outside of that threshold cannot be on your team. After 5 minutes, the system would switch to averaging the MMR no matter what. After 10 minutes, the game will match up whoever is queued. That would give people the opportunity to at least re-queue before hitting 5 or 10 minutes with minimal changes to the source code.
The only issue I see with this system is that possibly, people that are on the very bottom or very top will have issues getting into a game. Okay, so when you’re close to the bottom you’ll be placed with others close to the bottom that actually have a decent pool of players (example - 2000 MMR queues into the 2500MMR bracket). The same with if your MMR is too high (example - 6000 MMR gets into games with 5000 MMR people and the 5% threshold is ignored).
For the record, most of my games in 3200-3600 queue within 30s - 3m. The longest I have ever waited was 5 minutes when playing a weekday at 4am.
This has nothing to do with the game focusing on 1v1. Its not like in WoW where if you balance PvP it messes up PvE. I get that. We aren’t asking for a unit nerf or buff. No one is saying nerf Terran because Terran and Zerg is the best composition in 2v2. That would be an example of balancing team games which would affect 1v1 games. What were frustrated about has no impact on 1v1 at all.
I just want a feature to where I can check a box that says " Wait a long time for an even match. "
This way, when I queue I know full and well when I decide to play mis-matched games.
