I love giving out Vespene Harvesters when I play Swann. One reason that I like defensive map is because it’s long enough for me to max out an army and Swann can help the team achieve that sooner, especially on Dead of Night where there’s fewer gas available and people have that 400 extra mineral.
Clearing expos and providing unit healing.
providing detection & towers if applicable.
I like to give my expansion to my teammates. Dehaka in particular can play just fine with a single base.
You’re braver than me. O_O I can see that in late game though, so you just kill your exp?
When your co-op buddy plays Abathur and you play as Artanis, life regen and shield overcharge.
Some of these can be clutch or annoying so use with care!
- P3 Swann Science Vessel warping to ally hero and casting Defensive Matrix to prevent death.
- Nova’s Defense Drone (manually apply if needed)
- Vorazun Dark Pyon recall to prevent death
- Vorazun place Dark Pylon to give Emergency Recall + Strike from Shadows
- Nova Griffon strike or evac
- Stukov Ocular Symbiote
- Nova manually casting Raven drones to repair/heal allies forces
- Stettman Overcharging Stettelites on allies army
Anyway you get the idea…
Here’s an underrated one and I hope more people do more of. Spreading your creep as Kerrigan. It really helps with healing off some damage as well as giving an aspd. buff to your ally’s ground units. Another close second would be cloaking your ally protoss stuff as Vorazun so they get the increased shield/energy regen.
I love to use my cooldowns on an attack wave a few seconds before my ally is about to engage, especially when my main force is on the other side of the map doing other things.
I must take ALL the kills! None for my ally!
I guess to clarify, if your ally is completely set up to handle the enemy wave with minimum casualties, let them handle it. It’s far more courteous.
I don’t want to trouble my ally like that! What if they’re eating their dinner or something, hands not even on the keyboard?
The best way to do this is via Omega worms.
Late game, sure. But Omega worms are expensive, and deep into the tech tree. The first queen should be coming out in the first two minutes of the game. Especially on defense maps like MO, ME, DoN, OE, and TotP, you’re just giving up a pretty large benefit if you don’t creep spread.
In almost all cases you start with building practically no units, rush hive tech, and get omegas + Kerri’s upgrades. You’re giving up an even larger benefit if you spend resources on a queen and APM spreading creep instead of more impactful actions. If you’re only getting Omegas late game then you’re sacrificing a lot of Kerri’s power.
If our expansions are together, I like to place my first Overcharge Pylon is such a way that it clears both “main building rocks” first. If it’s a mission with fast attack waves, I wait with Overcharge. So the second one goes to my own expo. But, if my ally hasn’t cleared his rocks yet, I’ll just spawn the Mothership there and clear it. Also, bonus range is awesome, so I attach Havocs to ally tanky units. If it’s a Swann spamming Wraiths, I’ll get the Havoc inside of a War Prism.
As Swann, I like to attach Science Vessels to my ally’s mech units. I appreciate it a lot when other Swanns do that to me, so I’m returning the favor.
When playing Raynor and I have enough Medics, I just pay my ally’s army a visit sometimes, if we do not fight together anyways.
Other stuff too, probably. I’m just a bit over 600 Mastery, so some things are just muscle memory.
If I’m Terran or Stetmann, repair ally’s mech units and buildings. Esp. if he’s Protoss who can’t repair anything.
Put up towers to ward off nuking Ghosts.
If I have disposable or more disposable units (Zagara Banalings, Stukov, Raynor bio), or hardier units (Karax’), throw them in front of my ally’s more valuable units (e.g. Zeratul units, Alarak Ascendants).
Provide vision for abilities that can use it. For the former, Pylons/Supply Depots (like Karax’/Raynor’s that insta-build), Stetalites. For the latter, Nova, Tychus, Karax, Swann, and their associated abilities.
As Karax, throw some SoA lasers to thin out some of the crowds
As Swann, micro his laser drill to take out higher value targets. On his P1, target to get max effect from the slow-down effect.
Well, no Omega Worms for her P1. Unless she’s paired with Abathur, who can make Nydus Worms but then immediately get converted to Omega Worms on account with being paired with Kerrigan. Or Stukov who has infinite creep spread.
Yes, losing Omega Worms does suck, but her P1 (+) is quite strong.
I’m still surprised that trick works. What other units provide “aura” when on a transport?
So Karax-Tanking is truly a thing now. I remember when I first mentioned it people said it’s not worth it.
True. I’m not sure why anyone would choose P1 unless memeing or levelling, but each to their own.
Hey now I use P1 effectively on Brutal. Just gotta be proactive with the creep spread.
I meant nothing against you, I was only highlighting how P1 is inferior to P0/P2/P3 in almost all cases. I’ve never seen anyone do better on a P1 solo than any other. I mention solo because that’s where you really see the strengths/weaknesses.
None taken. Well if it’s solo then yes Omega worms would be more useful. But I see P1 as Kerrigan’s “support” prestige since it really elevates anything on your side that’s touching creep even if it’s enemy made. Too bad it doesn’t speed up workers or it would be great early game too.
