Donny Vermillion Commander Concept - Civilian Uprising

Lead Mobs of Rioters

Like Stukov and Zombies, Donny starts the game with a Civilian Compound that produces a temporary mass of armed rioters. They cannot be controlled, and follow a rally point.

Scavenge from your Enemies

Donny gains extra Minerals and Gas from destroying enemy structures, and also fills a new Popular Support meter by destroying structures and units.

Rally the Revolution

Not unlike Zeratul, Donny uses simplified macro with upgrades including better equipped support for Mobs unlocking as his Popular Support increases.


Donny’s lines may frame him as reporting on a spontaneous riot more than commanding it.



Unique Buildings



Civilian Compound

Spawns mobs of temporary units every 60 seconds after an initial delay. Capable of lift-off.

Unlocks upgrades with Popular Support levels.

Popular Support 1

More Militia spawn, backed up by Marines with shields.

Popular Support 2

Marauders, Firebats, and Medics join.

Popular Support 3

Goliaths and additional Militia join.


Supply Network

Improved Supply Depots that slowly heal units in a wide radius around them while above ground.

Undetectable while underground.

While they are above ground, units can enter them to exit at any Supply Network, like a Nydus Worm.

Taking inspiration from tunnels in Vietnam.

Militia

Armed Civilian

Similar to an unupgraded Marine with only 45 health, costing 35 Minerals.

Can swap to Worker mode to serve as resource collectors, but they cannot construct buildings. Can be trained from Barracks and Command Centers.

Popular Support 1

Unlocks Rebel Yell as a StimPack-like effect without self-damage.

Popular Support 2

Production time and cost lowered by 50%.

Popular Support 3

Rebel Yell now buffs nearby allied units for half the effect. Non-stacking.


Nomad

Construction Vessel - Detector

Handles Building construction and supports troops with battlefield engineering. Built from the Command Center.

Capable of building any structure in half the time of an SCV, beam repairing at double SCV speed without a resource cost, and deploying Auto-Turrets on a 2 charge system.

Popular Support 1

Popular Support 1

Boosts the durability and damage of Turrets.

Popular Support 2

Unlocks Thunderbolt Rockets for the Turrets, which can fire on air targets every 15 seconds. Turrets can fire their primary attack and the rockets at the same time. (Like a mini version of Tychus’ Sirius Warhound hero.)

Popular Support 3

25% Cooldown reduction, Construction costs halved.


HERC

Repurposed Construction Suit

Grapples to targeted locations, dealing 10 damage and stunning in a small area. Like a mini-Cannonball serving as a tank and a disruptor.

Deals heavy bonus damage to Structures.

Popular Support 1

Unlocks Juggernaut Plating, increasing armor by 4 and HP by 200.

Popular Support 2

Unlocks Critical Response System, healing the HERC by 100 HP upon taking fatal damage. 60 second cool-down.

Popular Support 3

Grapple cool-down halved to 5 seconds.


Armored Personnel Carrier

Modified Evacuation Transport

Built in the field, essentially a moving Bunker that can fire on the move. Militia and HERCs housed inside it can also fire out, though HERCs have a very small range.

Gains a powerful all-purpose Autoturret.

+2 Armor, Capacity increased from 4 to 6.

Popular Support 3

+30% Movement Speed.


Hercules Dropship

Heavy Cargo Ship

Loads and unloads a huge number of units almost instantly.

Unlocks Tactical Jump.

Popular Support 2

Unlocks the Offworld Reinforcements ability to spawn four temporary Militia.

Popular Support 3

Offworld Reinforcements now spawns six Militia.


Vulture

Hoverbike

Popular Support 1

Unlocks Spider Mines on 3 charge system. Players can pay for more.

Popular Support 2

Boosts the damage and area of effect of Spider Mines.

Popular Support 3

Upgrades attacks with High-Explosive Shells, making Vultures equally effective against light and heavy ground units.



Calldowns



Popular Support 1

Hercules Bombing - Drops a line of bombs in a trajectory, damaging ground units with bonus damage to structures.

Popular Support 2

Wings of Liberty - Six temporary Liberators spawn, capable of damaging structures.

Popular Support 3

Breaking News - Immediately spawns the next Mob wave early, resetting the cooldown.



Why Donny


This is an attempt to make a Terran commander themed on a civilian uprising against Mengsk, and other threats, in the wake of his damning speech being spread.

Donny Vermillion is an odd choice for a Commander, but he seems best suited to fill that niche.

Raynor should be the post child of a revolutionary force, but he pretty plays like a conventional Terran force.


Themes


To represent a revolutionary army, Donny does not use large machines purpose-built for war.

Raiding armories permits some weapons military machines, but the heart of the army is armed militia and repurposed civilian vehicles.

It’s just that a commander kinda commands people around, right? Do you think there is anyone in this universe would obey Donny’s commands? Not even Kate and Terry do.

That’s fair.

In a perfect world this would be Raynor, but he’s pretty much a conventional Infantry commander. And he doesn’t have any fitting subordinates for it.

I made this for the civilian revolt concept, not for Donny.

Edit: It may be better to frame him as reporting on a spontaneous revolt than leading it.
