Difficulty with matchmaking pairing

i just started starcraft about a week ago, completely new, and played through the terran campaign. long story short, went to play unranked because the ranked is locked. why am i getting paired against people around my skill level, i cant learn when i am being steamrolled by players with way more experience than me. what are some tips you guys can give to help continue with this game.
i was todl that it takes a few games for the game to learn where u are, well 1. why does it assume a brand new account is a higher level than brand new, and 2. how many games does it take for it to level out, more than 20 (lost about 20 games so far in unranked). 3. also does winning AI matches effect your unranked score, because i do win against hard AI sometimes when i am bored of trying to win but feeling like my efforts to win in unranked were for nothing.

btw when i mean steamrolled, i mean i have maybe 15 marines and they have an entire army.

also i know i suck, but getting better slowly everyday.

observe mmr when it come to arround 3k you should be able to punch back… More or less.

i have no idea what you mean lol

You should played ranked instead of unranked, once you’ve played like 5-10 ranked games you’ll be assigned an MMR and a league and you’ll be able to play against others that are probably your skill level and you’ll know exactly where you stand.

You need to play at least 25-30 games - rather 50 so the system knows how good you are.
After at least 10-20 games, you’ll start to get opponents similar to your skill level.

Also note that it isn’t important how many games you win at first. Rather look at what you did well and focus on yourself.
–> Worker production
–> spending energy (queen, mules, chronoboost)
–> spending your ressources asap
–> expanding

(the list of the video is a bit weird - search for the next part after every video)

Also Winter, PiGSc2 and other streamers have videos to help you.

Also note older videos that are still immensly important like Day9 mental check list:

there is part 1-3

When you’ve played 1000 versus matches against people you’ll know you are bad.
When you’ve played 2000 matches you lament because you’re so so bad.
When you’ve played 3000 matches you’ll begin to see even more mistakes when reviewing your replays.
It’s a never ending vicious cycle of improvement. Just ask Serral.

Shuuragksh thank you for your help. one note: how do i know if im doing things right and learning when none of my efforts resolve in a win, i dont have enough experience to know, hey i did this wrong, or hey, i can improve here. i have also taken the time to watch most of those videos you linked above before so i have a basic understanding of where i need to go in terms of direction.

do you know why blizzard has it where i need to lose 50 games in order to be matched correctly?

thanks for your advice and your time with helping me.

Just queue for ranked, leave all 5 placement games, get placed in bronze 3, and there you have it.

You’ll want to watch your own replays. Take note of when you’re supply blocked and when you have too much money. Also keep an eye on your production facilities to see if you miss production cycles. Essentially if you go over 1000 minerals and aren’t maxed you’ve screwed up. Hard.
Watch every single one of your replays to identify why you had a smaller army supply (like you said). If you don’t do that You’re gonna have a hard time getting better. If you want to be a real hardcore nerd baller tryhard you can also go to a search engine of your choice and search for spawning tool.
There’s no easy way to git gud in this game. Practice, Practice, Practice… And then practice. Then your kung fu will be strong. HAI!

I hate to break it to you, but the match making for game doesn’t work very well. After your provisional MMR ( 25-30 games ) you will notice it just gets worse the more you play.

yeah new accounts are put too high imo.

once you have ranked unlocked I recommend leaving the first 5-15 games and get yourself in bronze asap. once you are there you will start winning again

It works sometimes. Somedays you’ll get ex-gms in low diamond. (yeah I get it they’re returning from a long break or just account sharing with friends but god damn those games to the deepest pits) and sometimes you get guys 200-300mmr below yours. I think that happens because the system tries to keep you at 50%winrate to the best of its ability.

I feel like this is a very bold statement to make for 1v1. The system works nicely at least in low diamond. Now for 2v2 that would be more accurate.

Playing against top 30 GM’s during my 5 placement matches isn’t what I would call good match making.

You play 50 games - not loose 50. The more games you play, the smaller the range of enemies will become (more and more similar to your skill).

You can always watch your replays and hit “d” for production, “u” for units, “g” for upgrades, “i” for income and also units lost.
Your goal is to have more income than the other guy the entire match while spending your ressources asap (good macro) and also “units lost” should be in your favour (good micro) if possible.

Edit: What OpenCog wrote only aplies to team games. You will never play vs. GMs during your 5 placement matches for 1v1 unless you win like 4 in a row and there’s kinda no one else online.

Not talking about team games, talking about 1v1.

That’s straight up BS. Make a new account right now and post the placement of you getting 2+ GM’s. I’ll personally perform f E llatio on you.
