"Dark Skies" Mass Marine?

The idea is wrong. It is as heavy as any sword and swords are significantly lighter than how people imagine it. I’m a mace person in my limited medieval fair experience.

You never deliberately brought a rapier to a fight against somebody in full plate. Its too fragile a weapon against a proper soldier’s equipment, and you basically need to knock your opponent over to properly stick them with it, because obviously they aren’t going to just let you do that.

Well, rapiers are relatively modern weapon, so yeah I would probably arm my female character with a gunpowder weapon.

Thing is I magined the use of it as a weapon for city fights. Not to fight armored opponents.

Not the intended use.

Remember folks, guns became popular because it was way easier to use than bows, not because they were more accurate or lethal (they weren’t until a couple centuries :stuck_out_tongue: )

I’d toss a crossbow at her.

The rapier was a gentleman’s weapon, derived from some relatively small swords carried by noblemen to make themselves look martial. While it was indeed a weapon, and could be used as such, it was not a soldier’s weapon, but one to be used against unarmored opponents (ie as in modern fencing).

That’s… what I was applyying.

I prefer guns over bows but those old flintlocks were everything but easier to use.

Good choice. But if you want a melee weapon, I’d say Naginata or a light two handed sword would work.

Estoc for example if you really want to pierce armor.

Fun Fact. The crossbow was such a dangerous weapon for its time that there was a significant effort by the Christian church to have it banned entirely throughout Europe, particularly, though not exclusively, due to its relative ease in assassinations. Obviously, most armies did not care enough about that to willingly cripple themselves like that.

Same went for Longbows until they figured out plate armor.

Which kind of longbows? Welsh/English or the ones used by the rest of Europe?

Spear is your friend. A very misunderstood weapon, that one is.

As far as crossbows go, I’d not want to get a bolt in the gut for sure. Damn things made the smart 'uns develop new tower shields.

Tower Shields as we think of them never existed. The Pavise was a “shield” in as much as a wall can be used as a shield if you put it between you and the enemy.

Welsh ones were pretty much banned outside of the islands.

Let me tell you about great invention of my people - Hussite War Wagon.

Im not aware that anywhere outside the islands were capable of fielding a corps of Longbowmen in the first place. You basically needed to be trained from childhood to use it properly, and nowhere outside the isles had both the materials to make the longbows and such a tradition of archery.

You don’t know how I think of tower shields.

The most useless unit in Age of Empires 3.

They bought a lot of Yew. Materials weren’t the problem. It’s just mainland monarchs hated the idea of having peasants with the ability to kill a noble fully covered in mail (which was true only to a certain distance obviously)
