Cutscenes of SC1 remastered

Hi, I would like to know if there are any possibilities in the future to see the Starcraft1 Remastered cutscenes remake instead of the resolution scaling. I understand that it wasn’t one of the biggest development priorities but there are various reasons why it would be interesting to have them:

  1. StarCraft compared to other Blizzardian brands does not have sequels in the pipeline such as Overwatch 2, Diablo 4 or Shadowlands. SC2 is still very “current” in its RTS genre, and apart from the competitive management, it does not needs particular artistic efforts.
  2. I often read as a justification that the cutscenes have not been redone to “keep the original 90’s gaming experience”. in my opinion it is not true: the dubbing, the models of the panels and even the artistic screens have been redone, which correct all the graphics of the game to be in line with the style defined by SC2 (in particular on the main characters likes Kerrigan or arthanis). it just annoys you to see this one detail not redone amidst so many graphics / audio updates.
  3. we don’t claim the same cutscenes as SC2, but a similar rendering to the final Warctaft 3 Reforged (arthas vs illidan) cutscene would already be acceptable in quality. always better than having the extremely dated 90s graphics quality, and with too much graphic differences.
  4. it is not my intention to make accusations of ‘laziness’ to the developers on the cutscenes, but many specialized sites of the videogame sector have always criticized this detail in the Blizzard remastered. it is in effect a lack of a product, which is “incomplete” on this detail (the cutscenes).
  5. adding the redone cutscenes would help regain more confidence in remastered made-in-Blizzard, especially after the W3R scandal. Online there are many who doubt the quality of a possible Diablo2 renastered, but starting with fixing the only artistic flaw of the remastered SC1 is a great start (followed by the current W3R updates, of course  ).

Developers, we know you are excellent art directors, and keeping up with details like this is never a bad investment. it would also justify a slight increase in the price of the product to add the cutscenes. I don’t know how significant this feedback is, but I hope it reflects the same feeling perceived by the community.

Short answer, no there isn’t. Starcraft Remastered achieved what it was meant to, so investing more money in it wouldn’t make a lot of sense, cause it wouldn’t pay off.

  1. The cutscenes weren’t redone obviously, cause the higher ups were’t willing to invest more $$$ in them, so they weren’t in the budget and were pretty much impossible.

  2. I wouldn’t call ScR lazy. It didn’t change much and is basically an HD version of the 1998 game, but when compared to Wc3R it’s a golden standard Remastered game.

  3. I wouldn’t want another Arthas vs Illidan. When you compare Wc3R to original cinematic, I would choose the original anytime anywhere. Not just for nostalgia, but for the fact that Reforged cinematic just sucks in pretty much every way. Look at like and dislike ratio on youtube, ayayayay caramba :anguished: The situation gets worse when you know that it comes from a company that makes basiclly Pixar level cutscenes for Overwatch, and that Reforged cinematic was one of the most iconic moments in Blizzard’s main signature trademark franchise, so I really don’t wanna imagine what they might have done with Starcraft…

  4. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a StarCraft mobile announced soon. Do you guys not have phones?

I think I explained myself badly (I’m Italian) and I would like to make a small clarification :grimacing: : I also don’t consider W3R a good product, especially in its huge technical as well as graphic deficiencies (then we all know its history of development and marketing, more or less). But I only talked about the Arthas vs Illidan movie as a qualitative comparison of 3D graphics rather than the product itself.

I’m talking about the actual generational graphic improvement between a movie made in the 90s and one made in 2020. Surely that movie is much less expensive than the realization of the remake of the intro shown at Blizzcon 2018, but graphically it restores the connotations that we all defined with WoW on Arthas and Illidan from 2004 onwards instead of just referring to the “edgy” models of the original game. I talked about the Arthas / Illidan movie only as an example of updated 3D but without too many pretensions (the very detailed opening movies of SC2, for example) :hugs: SC1 Remastered is definitely a great job overall compared to W3R, but I also think that taking care of the “anachronism” of the movies is the last step towards perfection. is like the generational difference of 3D in Toy Story 1 and 4: seeing the first film today points out the limits of the technologies of the 90s (even if only in modeling human faces). This defect is also visible in SCR but in an extremely marked way: rigid faces and animations, super dated lighting effects and above all how Sarah Kerrigan looks compared to SC2. it’s too big a difference, determined only by the technical limitations of the 90’s generation.

Either way, I hope it’s not bad as a thought about how to take care of Starcraft in the future, if there is a chance to do it honor. Maybe when it turns 25 years old? it would be great to think so

Ouch, sore pop-up for a PC gamer like me. I am not against innovations on other platforms, as long as they are little non-canonical “spin off games” (example: fallout and Fallout Shelter, two completely different videogame genres), not Diablo “3” for mobile (both in the genre and in the characters proposed). A great example is Hearthston and WoW too: same universe, no bother to anyone (even if it was only mobile). and completely different videogame genres.
