Creating Stronger Counters to Infestors?

Hey, so I’m a Protoss player and I wanted to talk about infestors. Many people think the infestor is too strong, and I am one of those people. It seems to me that infestors are being used far too much and there is a possible solution which I don’t see much discussion on.

Firstly, we see professional zerg players amassing infestors and abusing infested terrans. This is not how spellcasters should be used. When compared to other spellcasters like high templar, ghosts, vipers, etc, we don’t see them being used to ~40 supply like infestors. Honestly, how do you think a full army of vipers would work? It wouldn’t, but would instead be obliterated and thus, we don’t see it in competitive play. I don’t understand how anyone can look at pros making over 20 infestors in their army and say that is ok. That should not be how the infestor is used.

Now one possible solution that I don’t see much talk on is simply buffing other units to counter infestors. Since I’m a toss player, I have no clue what goes on in TvZ or ZvZ. But I do understand PvZ to an extent. Possible counters to infestors would be disruptors, high templar, and basically good aoe damage to kill infested terrans efficiently. Since infestors are so good in the current meta, couldn’t the balance team just buff disruptor’s ball radius or ability cooldown? Now this would greatly buff disruptors, but that can be compensated by lowering the ball’s speed. This would allow disruptors to be majorly buffed against slow infested terrans, but hopefully have relatively unchanged strength against other units. Anything along those lines would majorly help protoss players combat mass infestors. I assume something similar could be done for terran units as well, but I really don’t understand the TvZ matchup well enough to suggest anything.

They just need to make HT’s feedback range 10. It’s that simple.

Fungal and EMP have cast ranges of 10. It also would help HT’s protect motherships from Vipers and infestors.

EMP is feedback on steroids. Not only does it wipe out all the energy for a cluster of units with 1 click, but it also takes out their shields and has a longer range. Why on Earth Blizzard nerfed feedback then buffed the ghost like this is beyond me.

Feedback once could kill infestor instantly if any of them has more than 90 energy. Oracle’s Revelation once last longer. Tempest once had 15 anti-ground range, had 300 hp and 150 shield and cost only 4 supply.
Ghost snipe once can cast instantly though it does less damage, but enough to kill an infestor with 2 shots. Raven once had PDD that last 4 minutes. Its seeker missile once did 100 aoe damage.
Viper once did not have parasite bomb. Infestor’s neural once had 7 range.

Agreed. Especially since it doesn’t do as much damage as it used to.

The infestor is just a way to dumb the game down to ensure even 50 IQ players can be the best player in the world. Everything about the infestor is just wrong. It’s too cheap. It doesn’t take up enough supply. It’s obviously too strong.

When you have a unit that can SERIOUSLY HARD COUNTER EVERY UNIT IN THE GAME, there is NO STRATEGY. Any idiot realizes to just mass infestors. The ultra isn’t even a bad unit… yet why doesn’t anyone use it? Why win 70% of your games when you can win 100% of them?

It’s absolutely pathetic. Strategy game. Lmao. Balance team? LMAO. My lord.

Buffing one unit to counter another OP unit is a fools errand… because now you have to buff all the other units that second unit is used against. Now you have to buff all the units that fight those units… repeat until every unit in the game is buffed and you’re back at square one.

This vicious cycle has already gone terminal with regard to air comps, thats why viking hp has been buffed twice now. Its also why we’ve circled all the way back around to broodlord winfester, now with the addition of vipers to REALLY hard counter the anti air thats supposed to counter the BLs.

If you buff Protoss AOE, you need to compensate for Terran getting absolutely smashed with this upgraded AOE.

What I would like to see more would be some kind of static area denial for Protoss Liberator style and nerf to infestor.

Make IT spawn range 3 like Raven’s turret. Make its life 10s like Ravens Turret. Turret deals 50 to 30% (AtG or AtA) more dmg than current IT, but is 2X2 structure and completely immobile, preventing any kind of spamming and twice as expansive. Why is IT just all around better than turret? Bring these two in line and we will se no more IT spam.
