Control Groups: Unclickable PLUS unassignable PLEASE

Been wondering quite some time, why sometimes I assigned stuff to a group that I never wanted and ever clicked again with my keyboard, here is the reason:

I had Groups UNCLICKABLE groups option , of course, because I use my hotkey, and don’t want to accidentally click on a hotkey with my mouse when there is a Marine Zerg or High-Templar just above that group symbol that I want to select with my mouse.

BUT those groups are still assignable. Thus when you do a simple RIGHTCLICK (see all these simple assignments by choosing “normal” and hovering over your group), suddenly you have Queens where your Hatch Hotkey is…

NOW nice there is the unassignable group option - working as intended - however then the groups will become clickable again… sigh Why don’t you make this option the ultimate: not interactable one instead?
This is what I was expecting when choosing this option:
Unassignable + unclickable (basically the advancement of the previous options)

Of course there is “invisible group option”, but actually I want to see my control groups (helps probable miss-assignments, helps early game (are all groups hot-keyed?), helps to remember drop-groups, or similar. Hence “invisible” is not the solution or thing I want, and probably very understandable by the developer who put so much design into showing the groups…

The game really needs: unclickable+unassignable (or simply the current, unassignable having, that from my perspective)

Thanks for reading.

Edit - Update2022-01:
Been trying some sc2 due to corona since december 2021 again, and found it’s in the game now working. (on a new account if that matters) Contrary to what it was before (tried both settings).

A Thanks to any dev reading this.

Overall sc2 really got so many improvements in the past until now, IMO it’s an extraordinary well designed game now.
(from custom hotkeys…, many helpful options… [be it for new players/tutorials or advanced players that don’t want to accidentally click stuff like turn-off-notifications, and so many more options…],
and a really well designed gameplay now [OP units yes, but the races not and feel really well in total])
A good template for future RTS of blizzard I hope.

How do you find yourself accidently clicking on them? They are so small.

My feedback is only to improve what they already found what players want and don’t want, BLIZZARD already implemented this:

  • option: Unclickable - players don’t want to accidentally click on their groups,
  • option: Unassignable - players don’t want to accidentally assign a group…

I don’t need to say more. No one has 100% accuracy. Example of popular streaming telling about his missclick: Unfair StarCraft Ep.8 - HeRoMaRinE - Full English version - YouTube Anyways in an attempt to foster some positive communication in this … forum:

  • I already wrote the answer. Please play any mouse trainer map, challenge yourself and record your screen, you will find you will always do slight missclicks anywhere at some point…, and…
  • as already written:
“If you have a unit at the bottom edge of your screen which you want to quickly select”… it can simply happen, you don’t even notice in a fast game.

Also there is a reason why even pro players have it off , like

  • Hero Marine “hidden”
  • I don’t recall certain other users as it’s some time ago that I payed attention to streams, but it’s rather common.

So Blizzard gave these options for a reason knowing about players not needing to click, not needing to accidentally click, and certainly not needing supposed helpful settings to interfere.

Anyways I’m not here to convince any user about him personally. It’s an empiric topic that blizzard knows. Not more to say from me.

I just tested it in game, and I can’t assign it when I have unclickable. Pretty sure “Buttons are visible but can not be clicked by the mouse.” means that they can’t be left clicked nor right clicked.

Either way this is legit the first time I’ve seen this weird complaint, and if anything the only thing missing is assignable but not clickable.

I find it weird how to bring up mouse trainer or clicking a unit, because I’ve played 343 games this season and I haven’t even noticed you could click on them, and I’m pretty sure most players don’t accidently on them either. They are so small that I have no idea how you come close to clicking them.

Also, the pro players that hide their hotkeys is so that other players don’t see how they hotkey stuff and take advantage of it. Not because they are accidently clicking on them.

So what you are asking for is already there, I’m not sure how you tested.

Yes you can,
when you set following options, … then following is the case…:

  • option: unclickable, then: you can still assign (via mouse) ###

  • option: unassignable, then: you can still click on any group

Topic:

  • merge it so, that you can neither assign, nor click, but still see the group numbers. (for people only using the keyboard)

###Again for mouse-assignment: I told you there pops a tool-tip how to assign in different ways when hovering over the button… Anyways I’m not here to explain or foster this method  BTW: All written above.

PS:
Because I really don’t want to talk about this another time: One way is a simple right-click… (which would be the same as ordering a simple movement of a unit… (say a mariner splitting from baneling…to the bottom of your screen…)) And now, please don’t deny it another time.

Final Story Time and people:
Actually I didn’t know this before, too, and I suggest a lot of people don’t know about it (as we see confirmed by the comments here). I NOW KNOW, because I actually dived into the replays where I lost and analyzed why and really wondered how I changed my group hotkeys in that moment of combat…, "whoopsie queens suddenly at hive hotkey [that I didn’t press anytime there with my keyboard] whats uppppp!?"; not only 1x…) There are plenty of people who get frustrated about their losses and forget about that games’ and don’t watch the replay and probable mis-controls.

You can’t see what keys you pressed in a replay lmao. If you actually try using unclickable you can’t assign units to it. I actually went into the game and tested.

Dude, you are only in forum for issue… , wtf? (ah yes I certainly don’t know about cursor hidden in replay >.<")
Dear Boi, I simply recorded my screen playing as video and see my mouse movement… , I can re-watch any game. It’s really normal in 2020 you can do that with a cheap laptop even >.<"
Contrary… I investigated on my problem, before posting feedback.

  • option: unclickable, then: you can still assign (via mouse)
    Yes, tested.
it literally tells you that you can when hovering.
I think I explained 3rd time’s a charm. This is getting quite repetitive. Such unnecessary comments. You have some other problem… Good bye.

I sincerely hope you have a very good new week! PS: I’m not checking this thread anymore, so you gotta find someone else to care for you.

@others
I found this quite entertaining by the way, was just watching this:
Any Missclick can happen by even the best, stating: Unfair StarCraft Ep.8 - HeRoMaRinE - Full English version - YouTube

Just some blind update that I thought deserves a comment - a thanks to any dev reading this.

Overall sc2 really got so many improvements in the past until now, IMO it’s an extraordinary well designed game now. Be it hotkeys-options, game play settings, and of course the game itself. (while maintaining the good ol custom games hosting where people help so well with stuff like micro macro trainings, or just a fun arcade map)
A good template for future RTS of blizzard I hope.
