Co-Op Mutation #469: Frostbite

Harsh winter winds scour the landscape as the dead rise from the ground and Amon’s forces have deployed mag mines throughout the area. Hold your ground, avoid both the blizzards and the mines, and purge the planet of its growing infestation.

Blizzard - Storm clouds move across the map, damaging and freezing player units in their path.
Mag-Nificent - Mag Mines are deployed throughout the map at the start of the mission.

Notes:

  • The Mag Mines cannot be attacked; but they trigger when a unit approaches them, and go in a straight line in the direction of the triggering unit. If they hit, they deal 250 damage in a mid-sized area.
  • Running a few units first to trigger the Mag Mines in an enemy base will make it safer for the rest of your units.
  • Careful what trajectory you send the mag mines on; sometimes they [hit your mineral line].
  • Units with Guardian Shell will not trigger the Mag Mines. However, this will give them ample time to move into position.
  • Mag Mines do not respawn upon detonation.
  • Blizzards move in a single direction across the map and do not despawn until they go off-map.
  • Blizzards turn white when they enter your base. During the white phase, they do not deal damage or slow down your forces.

This mutation requires cannon fodder, high-health units, and heroes when evading frostbite. Recommended commanders:

  • Stukov P3
  • Mengsk P1
  • Karax P1
  • Nova P3
  • HH P1
  • Tychus P2
  • Raynor P3
  • Zagara P1

@RayoftheSun Welcome back :saluting_face:

Now, a couple of words about the muta, from my modest experience.

Base defense is mostly normal. But not completely normal. Unfortunately, Blizzards partially affect the highgrounds near NW and NE exits, and there are also several Mag-Mines spawned up there. In addition to that, Mag-Mines triggered right outside can fly into base, potentially damaging defenses, production or even workers at resources. But aside of that, nothing too special that a solid defensive commander can’t handle, especially Karax with his Restoration Beam.

Attacking though is a completely different story. Big ground army is out of question, Blizzards and Mag-Mines will tear them apart. Ideal solution is to use some top panel abilities or high range infantry from your base. H&H P3, in particular, shine here. If not, then a compact fleet that can dodge the obstacles could work fine — but you must micro it well.

Mutation overlap 50, 285. this week 3rd.

1st clear Nova P3+Zeratul P2

Mutation (Frostbite) play list.

Eyy welcome back Ray. Doable but be patient and don’t expect to clear it by the 3rd night. Mine was extra long since I was a P0 Stukov paired with an Artanis that just wanted to def (surprisingly he pulled off the def on his own) but it took us until night 5 with me just sniping buildings with banshees.

I suppose in this particular case Stukov P2 could’ve actually been useful

Glad to see my computer didn’t break during the moving process. I am happy to report things will be back to normal very soon.

Will you create the topic for this week’s mutation, or should I?

I would appreciate if you did this week. I could probably create it quickly, but I can’t even log into SC2 quite yet. Still super busy over the next 2 weeks.
