Co-Op Mutation #460: Hostile Takeover

Amon’s forces are using their missiles and laser drill to target your structures from afar. Whatever they burn down, they will rebuild as their own. Guard your bases well, but don’t forget the Void Shards[not Rifts] that threaten to destroy Korhal itself.

Missile Command - Endless missile bombardments target your structures and must be shot down throughout the mission.
Laser Drill - An enemy Laser Drill constantly attacks player units within enemy vision.
Eminent Domain - Enemies gain control of your structures after destroying them.

Notes:

  • [Missiles] spawn at the very start, from the edges of the map. They slowly fly to the players’ bases.
  • The missiles do NOT give vision to the Laser Drill.
  • Missiles deal 100 damage at first. However, the size increases, and eventually they launch [nuke missiles] toward players’ bases. Those ones come with a warning sound.
  • We can shoot down the missiles 10 HP, but sometimes they launch [Point Defense Drones] , so we need to shoot those down first. Also, we cannot stop them from spawning.
  • The [Moebius Laser Drill] has 1000HP/2000Shields, 2 Armor, deals 20 damage per second, range of 500.
  • Upon being destroyed, the [Laser Drill will revive after 120 seconds] .
  • Protoss buildings claimed by Amon will need power to function. They also do not get commander-specific upgrades.

Chalk this under “it’s easy, but annoying, and can spiral out of control”.

I had one loss b/c I didn’t notice my Dehaka ally’s base got nuked into oblivion. With Eminent Domain (ED), it’s extra steps to rebuild your base

Karax P2 has been overall good. No towers which are typically good vs. Missile Command (MC), but ED would turn it back against you anyways. His P2’s pushing power is actually nice for a short missions like this (less than 20 minutes). Energizers are surprisingly good at shooting down MC missiles, along with Mirages!

My Mengsk P2 ally was good. He massed Sky Furies (Vikings) which were greatly helped by Repair Beam, Unity Barrier, and Chrono Field/Wave. Sniped the bonus objectives (fun fact… they have the Massive tag :sunglasses: ), and also several of the main objectives.

Swann P1 does slow down missiles!

P3 Zera with a Mengsk ally (didn’t catch the prestige). Ally went EO in the usual spot in the upper corner.

Since I didn’t have to push, I didn’t expand which saved some resources for my main’s missile defense and army building. I camped in the center of the map and covered the attack waves and the 1st bonus. My ally got the 2nd bonus with Sky Furies. Otherwise we just chilled while the objectives fell to the EOs. Wasn’t bad at all.

The only sticky part was early in the mission when a bunker that my ally placed next to their command center got taken over. After 2 or 3 consecutive warnings that my ally’s base was under attack, I scrolled over to see 75% of their workers gone. I happen to be nearby so I killed the bunker. But, my ally was able to recover and we won without much issue.

So far I’ve been having a lot of fun with Artanis on this one. I’ve tried P1 and P2. Both, but I like P1 a bit better. Phoenixes are great for burning through missiles. Guardian shield protects workers from nukes, solar bombardment can one shot crystals. Shield overcharge is amazing as always. Tempests are great for laying siege to enemy areas.

A low brutal + rating, but some mad synergy between the mutators.

Missile command destroys structures, which Amon takes with eminent domain, and then he’ll start shooting your stuff with the laser drill.

When you head out to clear shards, your units will be hit by the drill, so pull back the one that is being targeted.

Speedrun the map if you don’t want to deal with nukes.

Don’t forget that the first wave comes early and they’ll bring the drill with them, so it’s a bit stronger than usual.

This mutation requires division, set up AA defenses against missile attacks and long range air units can focus the shards. Recommended commanders:

  • Raynor P3
  • Mengsk P1
  • Karax P1-P3
  • Stukov P1/P3
  • Tychus P2
  • Swann P1
  • Alarak P3
  • Artanis P3

General tips for this week…

If you’re Spine Crawler, Spore Crawler, Infested Bunker, or Infested Missile Turret is is about to die, quickly uproot them! They lose the Structure tag when that happens, so when they get destroyed, they won’t be converted via ED.

For Terran, if you can anticipate 5 seconds ahead of time or stall its demise, Salvage your Bunkers/Turrets first.

Swann Missile Turrets have that “missile rack” add-on which is excellent against Missile Command missiles with PDD. Especially the big nukes that come by!
