Co-Op Mutation #455: Shields Up!

A spacetime anomaly has enveloped Kaldir. Kinetic energy is diffused in all directions, and pockets of temporal and spatial irregularity litter the battlefield. Fight through them and take down the shuttles.

Diffusion - Damage dealt to enemies is split evenly across all nearby units, including your own.
Mineral Shields - Mineral clusters at player bases are periodically encased in a shield which must be destroyed for gathering to continue.
Shortsighted - Player units and structures have reduced vision range.

Notes:

  • Diffusion affects units within 5 range of the enemy damaged.
  • Mineral shields are 50 health structures. A minimap ping indicates their arrival. If not destroyed they last a very long time then they disappear on their own.
  • Player units and static defense DO NOT autotarget Mineral Shields.
  • Mineral Shields can activate on any mineral patch within 15 distance away from a Command Center/Hatchery/Nexus or any variant thereof.
  • Raynor’s scanner sweep is unaffected by short-sighted and allows players to shoot enemies from a sufficient distance to avoid damage.
  • Melee units will still attack even without vision.
  • It seems that calldown weapons are immune from Diffusion.
  • Diffusion spreads damage from the mineral shields to your workers.

This mutation requires air superiority and expendable units. Placing base defenses near the mineral fields is the best option for mineral shields. Recommended commanders:

#36 Shields UP – SOLO ALL CLEAR

Mutators: Diffusion, Mineral Shields, Shortsighted

If you don’t kill the mineral shields in one hit, your workers will get hurt. Zerg and protoss will regen the life before the next mineral shields, but terran will need repairs.

Put structures in the path of the shuttles so you can attack them from a distance without losing vision.

Karax P3 + Stukov P3 — WIN
This has gotta be the hardest B+1 for me :confused:
Ally carried here! I did do much (since SoA lasers are always potent, but man several times where I slipped.

Like with any other VL mission, make sure you’re well equipped to handle the final waves. Better to secure the middle gate, and ONE of the other sides, and leaving the 3rd one empty if it means not “half assing it”.

I’m thinking towers behind the middle gate to help snipe the shuttles for one.

Karax P3 + Stukov P3 — WIN, full bonus
Admittedly, ally did much of the carrying here. I should’ve set up much more towers. Definitely some Monoliths outside the path of shuttles for that extra oomph. And cannons to boot! His infested provide for good vision, absorbing damage (since they’re free units). Still, dumping large amounts of SoA into lasers did their fair share.

Raynor P0 + Dehaka P2 — WIN
This was nice due to Com Scan completely negating Shortsighted. Scan as needed to enable your troops, and those of Dehaka’s, to “play as normal”.

Swann P2 + Zagara P1 — WIN, no bonus
My ally did pick up that Diffusion reduces the effectiveness of this swarmy approach. However, Banalings were still useful in bursting down stuff, even if they lost much of their DPS. And he did make Corruptors and Abs to help compensate.

Me… I made Missile Turrets near the gates, but also had to make them closer upwards for more DPS. And then Billy Blasters and Flaming Betties b/c without them, the turrets just get taken out by ground units. Esp. Hybrids
