Co-Op Mutation #439: Growing Threat

Amon’s forces have been altered by the terrazine on Bel’shir in unexpected ways. Increased adrenaline triggers unpredictable transformations and each new death unleshes new hostile forms. The most powerful of them have even developed nuclear capabilities.

Transmutation - Enemy units have a chance to transform into more powerful units whenever they deal damage.
Mutually Assured Destruction - Enemy Hybrid units detonate a Nuke upon death.
Alien Incubation - All enemy units spawn Broodlings upon death.

Notes:

  • Enemies have a chance of transforming when it deals damage. When an enemy kills one of your units it’s a guaranteed transform. Avoid losing ANYTHING whenever possible.
  • Enemies transform into tiers based on the supply of the units they kill. An enemy that kills a Zealot (2 supply) will level two tiers.
  • Units have a chance to transform into Hybrid. And those ALSO detonate nukes.
  • Hybrid nukes detonate after the death animation.
  • Alien Incubation spawns a number of broodlings proportionate to the slain unit’s supply cost.
  • Spawned broodlings can transform into units.
  • Enemy units, upon transforming, return to full health. Make sure to focus the strong ones before they become Hybrid.
  • The enemy is really effective at clearing out spider mines now. If you want to use them, make sure to place them at the exact spawn points, rather than the pathing. Alternatively, add ranged units to draw aggro away from the mines.
  • The broodlings sometimes wander into your expansions and transform up to hybrid as they kill workers. It’s a good idea to have some form of static defense or have insanely fast reactions to avoid losing workers.

#20 Growing Threat – SOLO ALL CLEAR

Mutators: Transmutation, Alien Incubation, Mutually Assured Destruction

https:// youtu.be/i41GM9zXYE0 (Easy solo - Stetmann p2)

A difficult mutation. One of the classic head-on challenges for many commanders.

Recognize which units to prioritize and focus down before they transmutate into more dangerous stuff

Remember that broodlings spawn from hybrids before they explode, body blocking you.

Put static defenses in small clusters on the map to stop the broodlings from hitting the bots (and at home).

You can just stall out the last wave with buildings instead of fighting it. Beware that hybrid explosions can destroy the harvesting bots.

For duos: Karax and Nova

For solo queue: Stetmann, Dehaka

Ctgs latest ranking video. This is a tough one in my opinion, but lots of fun.

This one ended up being too tough for me. The 3 mods synergize together very well. I settled for clearing it on Hard.

Karax P3 + Kerrigan P2 was a bust.
Ally did good, but my towers kept dying.

Karax P2 + Tychus P2 was a success. Even did both bonuses and full map clear (mostly Tychus, but I digress)
You need to do some extra micro if a hybrid is about to die (my ally even pinged me at moments to retreat). Send a lone Zealot or 3 to whittle away the last few health on a hybrid. They’re cheap enough to replace. Even better if the revive ability is active (off cd). Otherwise, you can save some SoA energy to Orbital Strike or Solar Lance it while they’re a healthy distance away from your units.

Tychus getting repair beam, at +15% faster repair speed, was a VERY nice boon for Sirius and his turrets. It let him take some Sirius beatings and still be alive and kicking. Even if his life fell low, he’d get healed to full hp in due time!

IIRC, Immortal Shadow Cannon can outdistance the nuke blast?

.

For both of those Prestiges, Unity Barrier on units is nice! It lets you tank one nuke at least.

I’ve been playing this one with mostly Artanis here. Artanis is not S tier, but if played well he can be very good here. Useful points:

  1. Guardian Shield can save lots of stuff from nukes.
  2. Shield Overcharge can help many units tank nukes and stop transmutations.
  3. Mass Tempests are a good way to attack without feeding too much since many units can’t hit area, they can abuse corners and snipe hybrids from a distance.
  4. If you have something to tank Hybrids, Solar Bombardment can wipe out groups of hybrids in moments.

I’ve been using P2 to allow my units to get around the map quickly as needed.

So far I’ve won about 10 times. A few with Tychus, Dehaka, Egon. 2 With alarak and 1 with Karax. Artanis is very challenging to play well here though. So takes a lot of practice to do right.

been getting hammered for a while. tried zagara p1 and that was okay ish just gotta split army and use mostly suicide units so enemy doesnt get free kills on zerglings.
my first win was as nova with a good lone wolf tychus, nova army works well to kill from a distance, nuke for the big wave and airplane to hide if u mess up, plus can save ally army too.

second win was as dehaka packleader, the 2 last cds really tank the big waves well, the firebreather needs something to tank or distance. i added locust evolved units as they are suicide and man they really help crush the attackwaves without giving enemy units kills to lvl up with, just hide them in a spot the waves dont walk past

tried stukov p1 a few times but ultimately got shanked every time, but i also wasnt paired with too strong allies and i think i fought too scaredycatly, the floor cloud they make can be used more aggressively as well and just finish enemies off quick to not have them evolve

One thing I love about this mutation is that it is a very solid alien reference. You have alien incubation. Broodlings resemble facehuggers. Facehuggers can eventually turn into hybrids which have some similarities to xenomorph’s if not killed fast enough.

I had an Alarak ally who offered to solo the mission. They used ascendants’ orbs to wipe attack waves (and the broodlings that spawned), and mind blast to snipe more difficult targets. With the power overwheling upgrade making ascendants into monster damage dealers, my ally completely dominated the Swarmy zerg comp we got.

In addition, they used destruction wave to keep anything that survived away from him and his army.

Nothing, including broodlings, could get close enough to deal damage and hybrids were sniped at a safe distance. All together, it virtually nullified the three mutators. Lol

Bro probably had insane APM. I can only focus on microing Alarak or Ascendants at a time.

I think this is for the next mutation right?

Oh… I just assumed this week was up. I’ll transfer it over when that happens.

New thread is up. Sometimes I am busy earlier in the day. Had a lot of fun with this mutation though.

That’s right, you’re the one that handles that. Thanks for posting this week! I’ve moved my post over there
