Co-Op Mutation #426: Temple of Pain

The hardest wars are those of attrition. The temple is under siege, minerals can be difficult to harvest, and Amon’s army is both resilient and fanatical. Hold out as long as you can, and hope it is enough.

Mineral Shields - Mineral clusters at player bases are periodically encased in a shield which must be destroyed for gathering to continue.
Barrier - Enemy units gain a temporary shield upon the first time they take damage.
Avenger - Enemy units gain increased attack speed, armor, and life when nearby enemy units die.

Notes:

  • Avenger can buff units up to ten times, with each increasing HP and shields by 10%, life regen by 1 per second, armor by 0.3, and attack and movement speed by 10%.
  • Units that get the Avenger buff also grow in size to give players a visual indicator.
  • Mineral shields are 50 health structures. A minimap ping indicates their arrival. If not destroyed they last a very long time then they disappear on their own.
  • Player units and static defense DO NOT autotarget Mineral Shields.
  • Barrier is a 100HP shield that lasts for 5 seconds.
  • Barrier triggers when an enemy unit is damaged but not killed. 1-hit KO bypasses Barrier.
  • The Mineral Shields also get the Barrier.
  • Mind-controlling/Reclaiming Avenger-buffed enemy units will cause them to lose the Avenger buff.

This mutation needs survivability, but more challenging. Mineral shields can be easily dealt, but barrier and avenger one… not so much. Recommended commanders:

#7 Temple of Pain – SOLO ALL CLEAR

Mutators: Barrier, Avenger, Mineral Shields

A somewhat difficult mutation. Enemy comp matters a lot, so you may need several tries to get an easier comp.

Don’t fight near the void thrashers because they can get avenger (and shoot faster, gain more hp).

Use AOE spells/abilities to trigger the enemies’ barriers, run away, then fight them after the barrier is gone.

Hybrid Nemesis (air hybrid) don’t deal more damage when they get avenger; they just get more hp, armor, regen, etc.

Build lots of structures around the temple to stall the last few waves. You don’t need to fight the last two thrashers if you can afford to lose 1200 HP on the temple.

For duos: Karax and Stetmann

This is a good one to mass towers for defense. So Swann P2, Karax P1, or Stukov. You’ll have to compensate if your ally isn’t good at pushing (which should be most others). Just pray you don’t get Immortal/Colossi/Reaver comp. Those will wreak towers, and one case where you wish you picked Karax P2 instead.

When making towers, be sure to layer your defense, and make them around several areas like the spawn points later on (south and southeast of the tower, ad northeast). Make AA around the temple in case Nemesis and air units rush towards the tower (bypassing all defenses and other units)! I checked… A Nemesis with high # of Avenger stacks moves 2.5 something to another +4.65

Last but not least, if you’re going on defense duty, you can add Mineral Shield busting to that.
