Co-Op Mutation #423: Bad Weather

Amon’s forces tear through reality and make landfall across Augustgrad as tornadoes rampage throughout the city. Can you weather the storm and close the rifts before it’s too late?

Void Rifts - Void Rifts periodically appear in random locations and spawn enemy units until destroyed.
Twister - Tornadoes move across the map, damaging and knocking back player units in their path.

Notes:

  • This is the second rerun of Bad Weather.
  • Each Void Rift has 500HP, and their spawnings are signalled by a minimap ping on each Rift.
  • [Rift spawn locations] in the first 8 minutes
  • [How to see Void Rifts on the minimap]
  • Time stop delays by 20 seconds the spawn time of Void Rifts.
  • Units that spawn from Void Rifts neither not drop biomass for Abathur, nor essence for Dehaka.
  • Twisters can go into the expansion area, but not its mineral line.
  • Twisters can throw around hero and massive units, but not buildings.

Mutation overlap 4, 73, 239. this week 4th. 423

1st clear Mengsk P1+Dehaka P2

Mutation (Bad Weather) play list

Seems simple enough until you play it for yourself and keep running out of time. I guess a well coordinated team will be able to clear this but it’s really hard on pub queue.

I had some good success with P3 Zagara. Teammate was Stukov. We were able to make fairly consistent progress while I tunneled to the Void Rifts and quickly sniped them. Getting on our feet at the beginning was the the pretty tricky though. The Void Rifts start spawning well before most of the heroes or strong defensive units. I had to make a couple Spine Crawlers right at the beginning.

This mutation requires division, one must defend the base against void rift attacks while the other destroys the void shards and rifts at the same time. Recommended commanders:

  • Artanis P3
  • Alarak P3
  • Tychus P2
  • Zagara P3
  • Stukov P3
  • Karax P3
  • Mengsk P2
  • Fenix P3
  • Abathur P2
  • Nova P3

One prestige I think people significantly underestimate Zagara P2 here. On paper Zagara p2 sounds horrible because of twister and limited snipe potential, but you can seriously brute force your way through most stuff using abberations. As since you have access to frenzy which affects army units, you can easily get forces to the desired location quickly. I’ve been able to consistently carry or at least put in good effort on my side using Zagara P2.

Finally, a challenging mutation. This is one of the easier void rift mutations on one of the easiest maps (aside from the early first wave). Follow my guides for general information, and see my runs to see how each commander deals with void rifts.

The general idea: control the void rifts near the first shard. Get access to the ESO island area (between the 2nd and 4th areas). Use air units to snipe the objectives. In the late game, spread static defenses near the expos and 1st shard area to get free rift kills. Remember that attack waves come every 3 min (until the very late game).

For duos: Karax/Swann and Tychus/Zeratul

For solo queue: Tychus, Zeratul

I think this is definitely one of the more fun mutations. Been playing this a lot this week.
