Co-Op Mutation #402: What We Do in the Shadows

A prototype mass cloaking field has disrupted your entire view of the battlefield. Not only can you not see the enemy, your forces also have difficulty seeing anything in front of them. You cannot delay the operation now as Sgt. Hammer’s Fortress needs to be saved urgently.

Darkness - Previously explored areas remain blacked out on the minimap while outside of player vision.
Shortsighted - Player units and structures have reduced vision range.
We Move Unseen - All enemy units are permanently cloaked.

Pretty annoying if you don’t have the right commander. Had a pub Tychus this time and I went with P1 Mengsk. Securing the middle area is the key here as once you get 8+ ESO’s at full power and remember to retarget them once in a while this mission is pretty much done. Had to drop some bunkers and blackhammers since I was against protoss air. but other than that, the mutation went smoothly.

P.S. Happy New Year!

Happy new year! I personally disagree to an extent. I think all commanders can work pretty good here with some proper care. If you don’t have detection out early then you need to kite till you can get it out. However a few commanders that I think would have an especially easy time here.

  1. Tychus(Any prestige)

Powerful. Has easy early solutions to detection.

  1. Egon(Any Prestige, but especially P2)

He can get overseers out very quickly and with structure morph mastery can make spore crawlers quickly if in a pinch.

  1. Nova(Any prestige, but especially P3)

Able to get wide detection early and avoid being hit.

The only commander I think might stuggle with this a bit and only due to the early game is Dehaka and thats just because the first wave arrives before Dehaka can get his first primal wurm out. And primal wurms are expensive to build. However once he gets past the early game then he is one of the most powerful since he can get detection and generally has good versatile army units that have answers to all kinds of builds. All you have to do is kite the enemies a bit till you can summon a primal wurm.

However with every other commander I think it mainly comes down to skill. Because even though heroes like Kerrigan may take a while to get overseers they can place spore crawlers and kite enemies to them.

Don’t forget to change the mutation number in the title.
:slightly_smiling_face:

How do I know what mutation number this is? 401?

EDIT: Wait I get it now.

This mutation needs a lot of detection and awareness, cloaked units are everwhere. Recommended commanders:

  • Raynor P3
  • Stukov P1/P3
  • Tychus P2
  • Karax P3
  • Zagara P1
  • Mengsk P1
  • Stetmann P2
  • Nova P3
  • Zeratul P3
  • Dehaka P3

Just like a standard Brutal game once you have detection. Maybe drop a building at the entrance to delay any attack waves you missed.

Hot ‘n’ Cold was #401, this one should be #402.

#218 What We Do in the Shadows – SOLO ALL CLEAR

Mutators: Darkness, Short-sighted, We Move Unseen

https: //youtube.com/shorts/ht0x30WUGZs?feature=share

https: //youtu.be/7ZddZdhpn1M (Mengsk p1)

Easy (but slightly annoying) mutation. Thrashers are not cloaked (anymore), so meme runs were possible.

Get extra detectors because short-sighted means your detectors might fly into missile turrets. If possible, get air units to tank for your detectors.

The bonus is cloaked.

For duos: Anyone, really

For solo queue: Stetmann, Zeratul, Mengsk, Tychus

P3 Zeratul with a Lvl 9 P0 Tychus. Nothing snazzy to report. Made more observers than usual and played out similar to a normal mission. Between my observes and Sirius’ turrets, we finished it up with the bonus in plenty of time.

The mutation made an otherwise normal mission a little more fun to play. It’s a nice reprieve from the last few mutations.

Tbh. I think 2 level 1s of any commander could probably do this mutation so long as they have proper build orders down and are making the right units. Once you have some detection is not that much harder then regular brutal.

I do like the spooky feel of the map too.

Mengsk p3 also worked, because the weapon mines are still good at killing the stuff.

Although I truly enjoy Tychus P2 in general, I consider Tychus P3 for this one as a safe and balanced solution.

P1 takes too long to get to full party, and this map is supposed to be won fast.
P2 requires you to have your guys pushing in multiple directions with autoattacking, and that not only isn’t needed as much for this map (it’s quite linear), but also gets painful if your heroes are unable to see most of the enemies in plain sight. And cloaked enemies don’t make it easier — Sirius needs to plant turrets all the time, Tychus can’t detect at all, and Nux or Vega aren’t good as solo pushers.
P3, on the other hand, buffs your Odin while not involving Tychus, which helps with your party consistency. And having a strong full party is beneficial here, because heroes can support each other by giving more spread out vision. Big Red Button loss is not as crucial here, since most of the time you won’t even be able to see where to throw it.
