Co-Op Mutation #369: Undermined

The enemy has turned Augustgrad into a minefield. Enemies sprout from seemingly nowhere and come up on your forces. Weed them out or advance carefully to victory.

Minesweeper - Groups of Widow Mines and Spider Mines are buried throughout the battlefield.
Void Rifts - Void Rifts periodically appear in random locations and spawn enemy units until destroyed.

Void Rift spawn timings:

Time Rifts
2:20 2 Rifts
3:50 2 Rifts
5:20 2 Rifts
6:50 2 Rifts
8:20 4 Rifts
9:50 4 Rifts
11:20 4 Rifts
12:50 4 Rifts
14:20, and after every 90 seconds 4 Rifts

Other notes:

  • Each Void Rift has 500HP, and their spawnings are signalled by a minimap ping on each Rift.
  • The first Void Rifts spawn very close to your base, however the Rifts start to spawn further, often behind enemy lines.
  • Units that spawn from Void Rifts do not drop biomass nor essence.
  • Large groups of Widow Mines and Spidermines are spawned on the map. Players can destroy these to clear them out.
  • Widow Mines have 180HP, deal 250 damage each with 5 range, and replenish their charges.
  • Spidermines have 25HP, deal 250 damage each, and do not respawn upon detonation.
  • Void Rifts tend to spawn in places where there are not a lot of enemy units, including mines, nearby.

Mutation overlap 183 this week 2nd

1st clear Mengsk P3+Zeratul P3

Mutation (Undermined) play list.

This mutation requires air units and detectors, ground units are prone to mines and focus fire on void rifts to prevent a stream of reinforcements. Recommended commanders with prestiges:

  • Raynor P3 (Orbital CCs and Battlecruisers)
  • Karax P3 (SoA abilites and mass Carriers)
  • Alarak P3 (Mothership/Destroyer/Havoc)
  • Fenix P1 (Mass Carriers)
  • Artanis P1 (Mass Tempests)
  • Stukov P1 (Overseers and Infested Strike Crafts only)
  • Swann P1 (Mass Wraiths and SVs)

You know widow mines can hit air right? Which means wraiths and BCs are in strike range unless you get extra range and even then they will just clump up and be in range anyway. You just need long range units with good mobile detection or have expendable units to send to the mine field and mop up the widow mines.

That being said your list is the most reasonable one so far.

Sounds like you can Arctilery this partnered with a defense commander.

Imo very suitable is Zeratul P3. I don’t like P2 coz u gotta focus so much on collecting fragments, but I suppose a higher skilled player will make P2 worthwhile. Personally I spam Cleave, make the detection flyers rallied to zeratul and then as I have more than 1 on zeratul i spread them around the map for vision (hide them outwith pathing of detectors). Some DT are useful to clear rifts in conquered areas and apart from that cannon spam

Managed with Han & Horner P1 and a competent Nova P3 ally. HH for clearing void rifts and Nova for clearing mines and pushing.

#183 Undermined – SOLO ALL CLEAR (the best all clear to date)

Mutators: Void Rifts, Minesweeper

Void rift guides

https://youtu.be/ticbsO_g9Tc (Abathur)

https://youtu.be/KpF0vBTHmbo (Tychus)

Difficult, but surprisingly not as difficult as other void rift mutations for a few reasons.

  1. Rifts don’t spawn right next to mines (if you can drop units directly onto the rifts, you can eliminate them without having to worry about mines)

  2. Most of the rifts spawn in the center area and ESO island (if you clear those areas, you’ll be able to control rifts by the mid game)

  3. RtK is an easy map except for the first wave

Pay attention to the widow mine outlines in the ground (a bit more difficult if the enemy is zerg). Be careful of any mines between the main and the natural.

The best plan is to clear the center and the path to ESO island so you can control most of the map. Rifts in far corners can be dealt with later using a small hit squad. Knowing where the detectors are helps if you’re using invisible units. Spread static defense across the center of the map so that any rifts in those areas die as soon as they spawn.

artanis p1 is a terrible idea. mass tempests with p1 is an even worse idea, since one regular disintegrate is enough to kill a rift and you dont need disintegrate to kill shards; you just have tempests attack from a distance

stukov in general is a terrible idea. don’t use stukov unless you know how to use banshees

fenix p1 is bad because you want to switch between fenix suits to get rifts. if the arbiter unsummons itself when you dont have an observer nearby, you’ll lose vision of that area.

swann p1: don’t mass SV. you just need a few. don’t use p1. p2 or p0 are better for dealing with rifts because concentrated beam is good. also, pulse cannon is good for clearing mines near shards so the wraiths can actually attack safely

Managed to ESO cheese my way out of this one with no less than 3 control groups of ESOs (1 main group to focus the shards, 2 to snipe the rifts). The Swann P2 I got paired with was so selfless he never got his expansion coz he was busy defending mine. Once I managed to get some forces to build ESOs on the hill and got to 8+ victory was sealed. I also learned that 4 ESO + Laser Drill are good enough to take down rifts on their own. Props to that P2 Swann who believed in me even if I was sloppy in the early game.

I’m surprised… 1st time win as Karax P3 + Tychus P3

I covered base defenses at our main and exps. Got very slow to get my exp defenses going since I kept having to rebuild :frowning: I sniped Void Rifts close by, later on sent out Obs to Orbital Strike (OS) faraway ones. Wasn’t able to get all of them, but having only 1 to 3 of them out vs. 6 to 11 of them definitely lets your tower defenses hold back that tide. On 4 separate occasions, Void Rifts kept popping up right where my ally’s tower line was at :sunglasses:

I spared Orbital Strikes, Solar Lances when things were more under control, and all Purifier Beams past the first one went to the front lines.

My ally ofc. pushed. Medivac-ed back to help with defense one time, sniped some nearby Void Rifts. Great team effort all around!

Did it with Technical Recruiter and a Abathur partner. Early was a bit complicated because Im not good controlling 2 units and lost Tychus twice, but besides that pretty easy.

:^)

I made the mistake of doing a move command instead of A-Move and my outlaws moved into the minefield and got rekt and then 4 void rifts pop up. Instant GG. :joy:

Nitpick, stukov may be hell for solo but all the commanders work on coop, lowest effort stukov would have the queen to power up a hero or range-based ally, and that is basically all the extra work that is needed from him

you can even be lower effort and shoot detectors into your zombies periodically and have them roam, theyll eventually clear everything

So what would be a better ESO cheese? Swann or Karax? Orbital strike or drill for Rift and Shard assist?

I’ve been doing Zeratul p3 in pubs and it has been working fine. Use Legion for first wave (keep at home). Haven’t had a game where I had an ally expand yet even though I would cannon up their natural as well.

As with any Void Rift mutation there’s a ton of luck. Getting Void Rifts spawning in the final four shard area, the second bonus area, or the enemy main base on the right can make the mutation significantly more difficult.

I think the Void Rifts are really nerfed by the limited area they can spawn. Since as mentioned, the Mines counteract the Void Rifts. So it “mostly” spawns where you already cleared.

Anyways, playing Swann, I used a studder stepping Cyclone build with some cannons as I advanced while a Karax just cannoned with observer build. If I was good at macro, I would have 200 supply I think. I went p3 (teleporting stuff), but I barely had to use it. Maybe if he didn’t have observers it woulda came in handy I guess.

I’d probably prefer a Karax P1 over Swann really. I think Chrono Wave and Boost also affects ESOs if I’m not mistaken and the repair beam is a god send. But P0 or P3 will also do just fine.

That isn’t coop, it’s making your ally carry you. Stukov is certainly doable, especially if you’re finding other commanders too easy. Try completing a few public queue brutals with Stukov and you’ll see why TwoTuu puts Stukov in “Torture” tier. With Void Rifts clearing speed and sniping are top skills, and Stukov does neither well.

Yeah, and Observers are great too, since you can just leave it around the map more safely. And Orbital Strike makes quick work of Rifts.
