Co-Op Mutation #303: Think Fast

Amon has unleased a fresh form of chaos on Korhal, with shadowy foes spreading rapidly across the land. Strike back quickly, or you may be doomed to join them as servants of the Dark God.

Propagators - Reality warping sludges are crawling towards you. Anything they touch is turned into a copy of the sludge.
Speed Freaks - Enemy units have double their normal movement speed.

Notes:

  • Propagators have 450 health, and transform any unit they touch into one of them, effectively killing the unit.
  • The first Propagator spawns at 3:30, and a new one spawns every 90 seconds on Brutal. They also hit very fast because of Speed Freaks.
  • Propagators hit ground units, air units, heroic units, and buildings.
  • Objects that turn into the propagator have the exact same HP as the propagator that infected it; so a 1-HP Propagator can only make more 1-HP Propagators.
  • Although the Propagators move super fast, it is still possible to kill them off conventionally because their attack speed is unaffected.

Yep, was warned about this one. I would’ve guessed B+4 if I didn’t already know ahead of time that we wouldn’t get anymore B+4 or higher for the next 10 weeks since our last one.

Zagara P1 Banalings to the rescue here!

#68 Think Fast – SOLO ALL CLEAR

Mutators: Propagators, Speed Freaks

Early wave + speed freaks means waves come about 30 seconds earlier than usual. Props are also super fast, so you have to use some tricky tricks or lots of explosive things.

For offense, I used the usual shard sniping strats.

For defense, I used two tactics.

Kill base cheese

https ://sc2-coop.fandom.com/wiki/Dead_Base_Cheese

Propagator worker wall

https ://sc2-coop.fandom.com/wiki/Propagator_Worker_Wall

It’s hard to explain exactly how big the space between the two workers should be.

Easiest: Zagara

Best against random AI: Zagara

Least effort: Mengsk

Proudest: Stetmann, Abathur

Questions about any of these runs are welcome.

I did random commander and got Vorazun (P3) paired with a Tychus P3.

Combination of Black Holes, Oracle Stasis Wards and Time Stops took care of the Propogators while my partner cleared the map and medivacced anytime poops popped.

We took the final set during a big time stop but some poops popped and I ended up using my last energy to blackhole the poops going after my DTs killing the last shard. We got the victory screen with what looked like a 100 poops headed for our base.

Skipped the second pirate ship.

Did it as p3 stukov with a p3 abathur ally on the random queue. Bunkers with some tanks did a good work, grabbed the bonuses too.

How does P3 Bunkers survive against Poops?

Zagara P1 with a Vorazun P1 ally.

Typical Banelings for me. Ally went all DTs and used large radius Dark Pylons to hide our bases. The few props that slipped by were handled by Black Hole while my Banelings caught up. I Scourged both bonuses.

It was a fun game.

Did it as P2 Karax with a P1 mass banelings Zagara. She took care of the early game, I produced mass phoenixes and sniped the shards. Lost my expo twice but we were never in a dangerous position.

After some struggling, finally did it as Alarak P3 with a P1 Zagara ally.

Had to learn to leave Alarak and the ground troop at home instead of trying to struggle to manage everything at once. It’s just easier to fly around the edges of the Shards with the Death Fleet and just pay attention to them.

Zagara handled the attack waves and Props so well that they never reached the main base, where Alarak and a squad of Wrathwalkers & Cannons were waiting. It was too risky for me to leave Alarak’s army in the middle of the map near Zagara’s units. One mistake, one time you don’t manage them for attack waves or Props, it’s over. That’s why he just stayed at the main ramp. Had enough to do with the air units (figuring out a good path, predicting the next Prop spawns and being on high alert for them) and War Prism management anyway.

That is exactly what I did.

Can anyone tell me if Graviton Beam works on Poops? It was brought up in coop chat and I wasn’t sure if it works on Heroic.

Doesn’t work on Heroic according to the map editor (both “graviton beam” I found), with Propagators indeed being heroic (unless it would get removed by trigger).

Tanks turn infested into explosives.

For some reason I didn’t think all “ammo” shot by the Intested Siege Tanks was automatically concerted to Volatile Infested but rather depended on its source, Thanks for pointing that out!

The other thing that I didn’t realise that I just read on the wiki is that Infested Siege Tanks rely on Infantry Weapon Upgrades for there Siege rounds, looks like even P1 can’t skip the Engineering Bay! (Unless just building Diamondbacks.)

I’m still struggling to see the synergy of P3 Aba + P3 Stukov on this mutation unless the Infested spent the whole mission sitting behind a line of Tanks and toxic nests while the Aba air army sniped the objectives?

I wonder if Infested Liberators would be out of range of Props while attacking Shards because of the shards large size and the props short attack range?

Edit: finally the wiki suggests that regular Volotile Infested benefit from Acidic Enzymes regardless of if they are shot out of a Siege tank or not making it a worthwhile upgrade even for a pure infantry build.

If you have enough infesteds they can actually fight poops and win, cause they are a hitscan attack. Some tanks were used for defense, but infesteds didn’t just stay behind the lines, they went on the attack :), there is no synergy with p3 abathur, picking p3 abathur is just for the memes.

Swann’s Wraith is also a good to use. They are fast and high damage. If you have time these are also good vs. bonus. Not as passive as tank turret, but after turtling in the middle, you can use them to push and not worry much about propagator “timing”, etc.

This isn’t too bad, but the usual disclaimer with Props remains… it can spiral out of control VERY QUICKLY.

Zagara P1 + Nova P1 - LOSS
Zagara P1 + Stukov P1 - LOSS
I let the Props get the jump on us. This isn’t unlike MO + Speed Freaks where “you blink”, and then they’re already on top of the target/objective, and it dies.

Zagara P1 + Stukov P1 - WIN
Rematch. My tip for those chasing down speed freak Props… in addition to going to where they’ll be (as opposed to where they’re curr at), click on the mini map for more precision. If a Prop whizzes past you, you’ll be hard pressed to catch up with them. Even with Banalings having speed upgrade.

Had a case where a whole lotta them spawned (14), but Banaling barrage miraculously took them all down.

ugh so annoying.
In theory easy with Zagara P1, but the propagators are so fast that if you miss them, you can catch up with them only when they are in your base :see_no_evil:
