Co-Op Mutation #252: Triple Threat

Amon has summoned minions from all three races in this battle. A Moebius Corps laser drill has its sights set upon you, hordes of infested terrans roam the terrain, and protoss motherships bombard you from orbit. Withstand their combined might and complete your mission.

Laser Drill - An enemy Laser Drill constantly attacks player units within enemy vision.
Outbreak - Enemy Infested Terrans spawn continuously around the map.
Orbital Strike - Enemy Orbital Strikes are periodically fired throughout the map.

Notes:

  • The [Moebius Laser Drill] has 1000HP/2000Shields, 2 Armor, deals 20 damage per second, and has a range of 500.
  • Upon being destroyed, the Laser Drill [will revive after 120 seconds].
  • [Laser Drill Location]
  • Orbital Strikes get a sound warning in the form of Amon’s laughter.
  • Orbital Strikes deal 50 damage per hit, with +50 damage to Armored.
  • Outbreak spawns Infested Civilians, then Infested Marines later, and Aberrations much later.
  • Players’ expansions seem to be safe from Orbital Strikes.

Going P1 Zagara and overwhelming them in return.

Wipe base quickly so you can rid yourself of the mutators altogether essentially.

The infested still spawn from Launch Pads but at least infested don’t spawn from buildings that’s closer to your base/bonus.

It’s a good thing Laser mutations don’t synergises with other mutations.

Not in this mutation but Laser Drill synergises very well with Mineral Shields, and some other mutators:

Mineral Shields provide vision as does Going Nuclear for a short time. Units frozen in Temporal Field are revealed and detected. Neither Missile Command, Time Warp, Blizzard, Lava Burst nor Twister provide vision.

And enemy Creep Tumours also provide vision to the Drill.

The orbital strike makes Turret camping for the drill much more difficult.

I was going to do my usual thing of setting up Karax towers at the exit pads, but enemy OS will likely wipe them all out. Well, this looks like P2/Templar Apparent’s time to shine!

Otherwise, P1 Zagara would be most fun here. However, I’m currently on lv8 for Zagara, but should be through in a few days at this rate.

Almost as simple as a regular mission. the priority is to destroy the laser and enclose the turrets. Tychus P0 and Stiukov P3.

You need Swann or Karax building repair.

Tychus P3 + Dehaka P2 ally. Does anything more need to be said about this brutation?

P1 Vora with P1 Karax ally. Mass corsair good unit. Use timestop as soon as it comes up, you get more of them throughout the mission that way.

First time in a while didn’t get the ling comp on first try. Reaver disruptor comp. Ally was a good barcode, OceanT clan.

Matched with level 7 stukov ally, thinking to quit at the beginning, but end up stayed because wanna see how it goes on early game. I played Arty. Luckily able complete brutation but I lost almost all my army in last wave.

Karax P2 AoW is also really dumb on this map, just build 2 cannons near the 3 entrances to your base then rush a probe over to the enemy base choke points and place down defenses at the entrances. They can’t do anything.

To be honestly any Commander can do this Mutation. As long as you have some form of quick defense at the beginning and set up a good line of defense at the 2 enemy choke points.

P1 Zagara was quite doable. Make Spore + Spine Crawlers to take out wandering infested walkers/marines. Attack waves will require intervention, but keeping infested out is a good start. I ended up making Bile Launchers to facilitate defense. When notified, you’ll want to reaim them to take out clumps. Her (+) of mass Scourge and Banelings were just the ticket. Make Lings and extra Scourge to get more ground and AA strength. Get speed upgrade for Overseers so they can keep up, but make sure they don’t fly into attack waves before the rest of your units (give them their own control group. Otherwise, everything else is covered by F2-A). Also, for both games, none of us bothered with attacking the laser drill.

Would like to try Karax P1. Does his healing able to compensate for the usual barrages of laser drill and Orbital Strike when set up outside of the gate?

Did this as P2 Mengsk with a P3 Lv6 Zeratul. Literally just went mass Sky Furies vs Hydra/Lurker Zerg, used a pair of Supply Bunkers backed with 2 Labourers each to hold the base… gg ez.
Was paired with Lindroos for the memes.

P3 Stukov with a P2 Zeratul ally.

My ally was nice enough to put down some cannons at our ramp and expos to deal with the trickle of infested. From there, I just did the usual P3 bunker spam. I didn’t need to worry about the drill or infested with an endless supply of free units. If I happened to be in view of an orbital stike, I microed out of it, but if not I just let it happen.

Was fairly simple. Got the bonuses.

I also decided to chill and did as Stukov P3 with a P1 Karax. We barely noticed the mutators:

  • Endless supply of infested made drill pointless
  • Karax’s barrier, regen beam, shield batteries, hp mastery, plus bunkers regeneration made the orbital strikes pointless.
  • Karax made some cannons, but mostly was covered with infested from bunkers, so outbreak was pointless as well.

At 10 min or so we just chatted, I made some queens and liberators for the fun of it. I think he made some phoenixes as well.
