The enemy guards the resources heavily, with mines set up all around to protect them. Can you outmaneuver them enough to take the locks?
Mag-Nificent - Mag Mines are deployed throughout the map at the start of the mission.
Minesweeper - Groups of Widow Mines and Spider Mines are buried throughout the battlefield.
Slim Pickings - Player worker units gather resources at a reduced rate, but resource pickups spawn throughout the map.
Large groups of Widow Mines and Spidermines are spawned on the map. Players can destroy these to clear them out.
Widow Mines have 180HP, deal 250 damage each with 5 range, and replenish their charges.
Spidermines have 25HP, deal 250 damage each, and do not respawn upon detonation.
Mag Mines, Widow Mines, and Spidermines do not respawn upon detonation.
Workers gather 1 resource per trip on Brutal difficulty.
Each pickup give 50 resources to both players [mineral or gas].
Air units do not pick up the resources.
Running/flying a few units first to trigger the Mag Mines in an enemy base will make it safer for the rest of your units. Zerglings, Phoenixes are effective for this. Han and Horner’s precision strikes are spectacular for this job.
Supercloaked units like Infiltration Specialist Nova will still trigger mag mines.
The Hyperion’s Point Defense Drones block mag mines.
Dehaka’s Prestige 2 + Improved Worm mastery + Creeper Hosts made it really easy for me.
Question: who found this week’s brutation surprisingly easy for brutal +5? (It’s still hard but not as nightmarish as it was meant to be).
I know right? Last week’s Brutation was more difficult and that was only Brutal +3. Polarity is such a powerful mutation with extreme synergy, its point needs to be higher.
I did it with Tychus/Nova combo. As Tychus, I used Vega and her vision to slowly push forward while Tychus protected her, and then added Sirius with his missile turrets, which made good meatshields. I used Tychus’ P3 to get the Odin in and out faster. My partner was pushing the other side with mostly marine/ghost/raven.
Fun fact: Vega can mind control the widow mines, which helped against the early zerglings.
This one took a lot of patience, but otherwise not too bad. I agree with Dehakaburger that it was easy for a brutal +5.
Because polarity is underscored, missiles are arguably underscored, and minesweeper is WAY overscored.
A warning, Stealth Nova is really slow, making it significantly harder than one might expect to dodge magmines, despite being otherwise invulnerable. It still is quite effective but you may find yourself forced to be patient, and between that and how slowly sabotage drones clear minefields, you will probably be in for the long haul. Still pretty easy to clear, but not fast.
If you are paired with an Artanis, it can be quite quick.
Source: my random queue partner who was Nova P3, and I as Artanis. She just beelined to the points cleared everything around them on her own and I just warped in units to help cap. Rinse and repeat.
Yes I suppose there is that option of just not fighting through the bases. Then you can just ignore most of the mines. But you need someone who can warp onto the locks without having to get through the minefields.
The point of P3 Nova is to clear the 5 lock/bases easily and quickly. Partner up with an ally that can drop in quickly. Hold locks with your own and ally’s dropped/warped/summoned in units. Win.
I wouldn’t recommend using Nova to clear mines/mags.
As always, I believe part of beating any mutations is about how to smartly avoid/counter them. So if you can avoid both mags and mines altogether, then that’s best. If your strategy involves sweeping through them all, then choosing Nova P3 has not much more value than others.
Because polarity is underscored, missiles are arguably underscored, and minesweeper is WAY overscored.
But is polarity underscored? it’s right under mutators that are a challenge even for duos and it’s almost a free mutator if you and your ally is good at the game, missiles are iirc 3 points which is the same score of many mutators that are arguably harder (double edged, aggressive deployment, fatal attraction). Maybe minesweeper is slightly overscored when we consider those other mutators are at 3 points, and minesweeper depends a lot on the map, on coa, cod or other maps where you have a timer to clear it can be hard, while in deffensive maps it’s almost a free mutator.
