Co-Op Mutation #223: Decade of Decadence

War is coming, with all its glory, and all its horror. After ten long years, the fight rages on. This time, you get a little help in pushing back the enemy.

Fireworks - Enemies launch a dazzling fireworks display upon death, dealing damage to your nearby units.
Lucky Envelopes - Festive envelopes containing resource pickups are dropped at random throughout the map.
Gift Exchange - Gifts are periodically deployed around the map. If you don’t claim them, Amon will!

Other Notes:

  • Ten years ago today, Blizzard released Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty. Happy 10-year anniversary!
  • When a gift spawns, it will [appear on the minimap]. However, players [cannot begin to claim gifts] until 40 seconds after the gift spawns.
  • [Players must send any unit] near the gift and clear any nearby enemies to begin claiming it.
  • Claiming a gift takes 20 seconds.
  • Whenever players get two consecutive gifts, Amon always [steals the next one]. Players cannot stop Amon’s thievery. What a jerk.
  • Fireworks target a spot with your units after an enemy unit dies. The more enemies, the more fireworks.
  • Fireworks deal area damage to units standing in a targeted circle after a few seconds.
  • Fireworks damages buildings as well.
  • Lucky envelopes is a flat out buff. Nothing about this makes the mission any more difficult.
  • The lucky envelopes give 50 minerals or gas to both allies when picked up.

I wonder how weekly’s will change going forward with prestige in play

Have you figured out how you’ll do your CotW with prestige? @CtG

“Ten years ago today, Blizzard released Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty. Happy 10-year anniversary”

Blizzard released Starcraft 2: WOL on the 27th, which is tomorrow, not today, regardless, looking forward to playing this mutation!

Being pedantic, are we? It’s 27 July in the Philippines, so it IS today.

Touche, didn’t think about different time-zones XD

Any commanders should be able to beat this. If you want a much easier time with this, go with Mengsk ESO.

I remember that day. After installation, the first thing I did was open the mailbox to get the Mini Thor pet in WoW. You’d think I would be straight into the campaign but nope; had to run errands after that.

Wrt “Everything is Free” - it’s good to be prepared for this one: taking an example from one of CtG’s older vids: Immediately queue up the construction of your most expensive structures (like Fleet Beacon, Fusion Core, Nydus Network, etc.) and units; and once the 10 seconds is over, cancel them. The cost of these then goes back to you.

The key is to queue up a lot of these, unlike how you normally should be playing. The build doesn’t need to start, just have the order queued, since that’s when it would cost you resources. For Protoss, make sure you have pylons spread out to have building space. Zerg CO’s who need creep for structs should pre-spread creep.

Don’t need the good ally, just missile arm your units and medivac them to the pirates. Only takes about 2min extra.

with the Lucky Envelopes there’s really no need for more cash. hit 200/200 easy and still left too much resources unused

Did it with HannNHorner with an Artanis partner vs ground Terran.

If you get swarmy Zerg you might want to reset because those dead zerg Fireworks can wipe out an entire army.

My God, not brutal+? for me it’s brutal + 3… or maybe I am just bad lucky? I keep getting gifts spawned at locations, where I can’t even push at the beginning (like top right corner of the map or the location of third void shards) and Amon’s getting a freaking kill bot (30 units) or he get like 30 or so banelings or 30 scourges vs my poor mass tempests… for real:)

We couldn’t get to any of the gifts early on due to them being all way behind enemy lines. So, we had to spend the time fighting Amon’s gifts off and never had time for the shards.

This one is quite hard actually.

Constantly losing half your army to fireworks.
Gifts very far away.
Fighting army from gifts, no time for shards.

Haven’t been able to win brutation yet

Do not go mass Tempest here, unless you are ready to see them die (either to Scourges or to random fireworks because something got too close to them).

This mutation has enough resources to keep warping Zealots and Dragoons until they kill everything that moves. And if you still have gas left after that (which isn’t a problem here at all), you can carpet-Storm entire attack waves.

Beat it first try as Artanis and Zeratul as my ally.

Look like some people are struggling with this one because of firework damage and Gifts bad placement. The key is to keep picking up Lucky Envelopes. With resources pouring in like crazy, build ALOT of production facilities. More production facilities mean faster remax.

It’s okay to lose your army. My army went down to 90ish from 200 but remax quickly in less than a minutes. I have ton of resources and Warpgate lol.

Gonna wait for the patch to hit so I can use this mutation to get somewhat a quick boost for prestige.

Got a replay of your Mengsk match? I think you’ve got to be lucky on presents and enemy comp to do that. First present to Amon with banes wave puts a real dent in early gameplay. I’d say 50% of my presents were achieveable.
