Co-Op Disconnection Timer

After countless games and frustrations I cannot believe there is no feature to pause or remove the countdown timer for a teammate that has disconnected, this game has been out for 10+ years now. there’s way to stop your teammate from disconnecting if they unfortunately lose internet or drop out for even a second, which the person that gets disconnected only receives “reconnecting” message. While they are waiting to reconnect they are unware they are actually getting kicked and there’s way of knowing, and even if you knew you won’t have enough time to reopen the game or scrabble to find the issue. only 60 seconds is impossible, AND it does not reset the timer if it happens again.

I know for a fact I have never lost internet, but it only takes the tiny amount of latency difference to cause you to go offline. and there’s no way to get back online unless you leave or reopen the game.

Please add a pause button so your ally can stop you from being kicked from the game. I have lost so much time and XP due to this problem.

The reconnecting popup is a clear indication that they are going to be dropped from the game if the connection isn’t reestablished.

That’s not necessarily true, in fact it’s fairly rare that it’s an issue with the client. Instead, it’s far more likely that it lays with the user’s network, and/or the 1000s of miles of hardware, and/or Bliz’s servers.

In those cases, closing and reopening wouldn’t solve the problem. Besides, closing the game completely closes the connection to the game server, and there’s no way to rejoin the previous game once it’s open again. The same applies to manually leaving the mission.

It’s fine to have a suggestion/criticism and wanting to present a cogent argument about it, but be careful with hyperbole: it only detracts from the effort.

I don’t get it. If you’ve never had connection issues, then this is all coming from either server end or your ally.

How often is this happening that you’re losing “so much exp”? You only lose that exp if you dc’d from server, based on my experience. Ally dropping out won’t affect you, except now you’re solo’ing with stronger economy.

Can’t you just finish the mission? If not, can’t you just remake the moment this happens? I can’t imagine this is happening 1/10 games even, so can’t be that much exp lost?

Why not just add a button to pause the game while the other person reconnects? We even paused the game prior to it happening because we saw lagging in the server, but the game started the countdown to kicking them.

so you’re telling me, if you disconnect from the server even for a second you have to say goodbye to your XP and time?

I think your idea is fine, I’m not disputing that. I was addressing the rationale/misunderstanding behind it.

That said, with SC2 having ended development, it’s unlikely Bliz is going to change/add anything new.

Not in every case. When you lose your ally, it doesn’t end the mission. You can continue with double the income and double the production.

I agree with Fearr above. Losing someone mid-mission from a disconnect happens so rarely that it’s never an issue. People manually quitting happens more often.

Again, be careful with hyperbole.

I am not exaggerating it. I would be in a voice call with my ally and I get disconnected, they can still hear me, my other internet apps are working fine. so yes, when there is a spike in latency I lose connection from SC2. which means bye bye XP and time.

I’ve have disconnected every 5-10 games so it has happened more often then you both suggest, and yea sure my ally can finish and get all the rewards but I lose my rewards how is that fair?

Not always. A simple spike doesn’t immediately mean a disconnect. When I play, the connection often gets reestablished and we continue on.

That would justify having a look at your network. It doesn’t mean it is your network, but unless many others are experiencing the same thing, it points to either your network or your ISP.

People only get their part of the rewards, not both theirs and yours, which is fair because they completed the mission. As for the ones who disconnect, they didn’t finish so it’s fair that they don’t get the rewards.

Well, you clearly stated that SC2/Blizzard can’t doing anything, so there is no resolve for this apart from living somewhere other than Australia.
It’s clear to see you play solo most likely as you don’t care if your ally disconnects as long as you get the XP right?
Just saying, pause would be the simple fix.

I live in Australia and maybe have connection issues about 1/100 games.

Not really. I prefer to have an ally who can split the work.

And I don’t always stay and finish if I lose my ally. It largely depends on where it is in the mission and how well my ally was doing when they dropped.

I think you’re blowing this just slightly out of proportion man. Perhaps thinking your proposed change is very simple. And I don’t think you fully aware of what is needed.

Let’s just take this topic replies as a very poor representation (but data points nevertheless), you have this issue 1/10, me 1/20, cptn 1/100. So the frequency of this “problem” is still low. As you add more data points it’ll still be low.

So why would the developers (which there isn’t even a team currently) spend resources (which there aren’t any) to fix an “issue” that occurs infrequently? This is especially worth asking/considering when the solution is to remake a game.

For what it’s worth, I feel ya that this puts a damper on the gaming experience/enjoyment.
