Change the viking

Currently the viking is good at things it should be bad at, and bad at things it should be good at.

Landed vikings should not trade well against thors or stalker, which they do currently. Units should lose not beat their own counters given similar supply. So I suggest either remove or lower their bonus damage vs mechanical units.

Instead give vikings one armor. It would make vikings more useful against units that they are supposed to counter, like Carriers.

Viking is a weird unit. It’s get countered by the unit that shouldn’t counter it but it also counters the units that he should struggle against. I agree this unit needs some changes but I don’t know if removing bonus VS mechanical and giving it +1 armor would be enough. I still give thumb up but it should be something more than +1 armor comparing to the proposed nerf.

vikings are cheap and you can produce two at a time,lock them behind tech lab and you can add 1 armor

It does when there are 1-3 Carriers. But if you have 6+ Carriers the Carriers start to counter the vikings instead of they other way around.
Add archons splash and storm and it becomes even worse.

If we add support units we cam add Ghost and widow mine. The latter shredds the interceptors, making carriers useless. While the latter deals heavy damage to archons and denies Storm.

And also for every carrier he makes you can make three vikings.

Problem is that while mines are cost effecient they are not supply effecient vs Carriers. If you try to counter 10 Carriers with the same supply of vikings and mines the Carriers will lose most of their interceptors while all mines and all vikings die in the process.

Basically the counter to Carriers only work when the Carriers are in really low numbers but as soon as the Carrier numbers start climbing you can not get the supply to counter them.

BC works in theory but in practice you cannot get enough BC fast enough while it is much easier for Protoss to transition to Carriers.

Which is why Vikings need 1 armor making it easier to at least counter the Carriers during the beginning of the transition.

One of the few things protoss really has that is just straightforwardly useful is that most of our units are supply efficient. That’s why you don’t want to engage a 200/200 deathball head on, and why our late game is always stronger than our early game. Trying to match anything more than small groups of protoss in power by supply is a fool’s errand. Terran units in particular are far more cost efficient than ours. You can afford to have us outnumbered at any point before the very late game. Do so.
