I don’t think they should be nerfed. I think the cost needs to be significantly increased so that a fleet is not possible so early. Let them be billed as “most powerful unit in SC2.” I don’t mind that. If that’s what they are then they should be the most expensive units in the game by far, which would be appropriate for Protoss anyway since their economy is so much stronger also. Then skytoss would consist of mostly void rays, early, which MAY be manageable. I think blizzard is in a tough position. Balance can swing wildly with extremely minor changes but I think modifying a later game unit this way would at least let them see how this affects early and mid game.

I could see them going for 400 300 or 375 275. However, base armor must increase to 4. As it was in SC1.

Often Times its actually not that hard to actually Beat carriers with zerg. For example showtime vs lambo yesterday on stream. Showtime got a beautiful Butt Smack and Lost all of his air pretty easily. But the Problem is now lambo got plenty of useless air left. Showtime did a ground Switch and killed him.

Increased cost=worse for the P= nerf
Carriers are not a problem, test them on the test map without any support and you will see they are not that strong, what makes carriers good is what is under them on the ground. Without any ground support you can kill any amount of carrriers with viper-corruptor.
Try it yourself and find out.

Lambo rekt showtime yesterday too while lambo was in yolo Streaming Mode and did tons of mistakes because of that while showtime was in actual practise mode. Turns out that zerg Players finally maybe should l2p.
Already tried - corruptors annihilate carriers.
Carriers are actually the weakest and most hard to control unit in the game. They sometimes have to retreat while their leash range allows their interceptors to keep attacking, this is way harder than having to do regular injects or doing multipronged attacks. I sometimes even have to build other units which just goes to show how weak Carriers are. I suggest bringing back the ability to send my interceptors out to attack where ever I want them to and increase carrier movement speed by 50% so I don’t have to pay attention to my void rays when I F2 A-move
People don’t want to learn to play, it’s not their fault they lost it’s the games fault. They are platinum 1 because of the game, not themselves.
Carriers aren’t the problem. The struggle of a lot of zergs is coming from a combination between numerous things they brought to the arsenal of protoss. The combination of the buffs to the skytoss combined with the SB buffs made really easy for protoss players to deny or delay zerg’s economy while having a great tool to defend themselves in the early stages. Cannon rushing/proxy SB builds are demanding a lot of effort to be contained and in the meantime the protoss economy isn’t suffering. The fast stargate builds are also not helping, as zergs are not having offensive tools to deal with sky pre lair and by the time enough hydras are hitting the ground normally protoss would have secured 3rd with batteries and so on. If there is a voidray or two on the field zergs cannot move with anything pre-lair effectively to deal enough dmg except some all in builds which I won’t discuss. Then once it’s in the mid/late game hydras are extremely effective against sky if we didn’t have the sky/storm/archon/disruptor combinations.
You won’t see pure skytoss, and hydras are just melted against sky with ground support. You cannot just attack because hydras will focus interceptors and will be melted, you cannot either focus fire as carriers could be behind the ground army. Mutas are not an option against skytoss and corrupotrs in large numbers are effective but then we’ll come to hard time countering the ground of the protoss. There are still options of course to deal with it but that doesn’t mean it’s extremely frustrating to play against such builds and they are 90% of the ladder these days it seems. So yeah the carriers are not the problem, the void rays are not the problem either, it’s the combination of all things that is the real problem.
The bad thing is that zergs will find a way to punish such builds but these would be all ins, extremely aggressive builds or some gimmick builds that make the game frustrating for protoss players which would start demanding buffs and nurfs on their own. It’s obvious as I came back to 1v1 this season and I already have adapted few builds to deal with the current meta in ZvP which are probably going to work extremely well even if i return my form and get to higher MMR.
As a conclusion it would be good for the game and also for protoss to see some balance tunes most likely on the SB and the overcharge.
Actually corruptors lose badly to mass carriers at max upgrades, especially when u consider that Toss will have an army supply advantage because of inject queens, and a lower worker count.
Yea. that’s why on top of Voids Protoss needs also a couple or triple of Archons in order to protect Carriers from Corruptors.
This moron forgets that once Corruptors (and even earlier) are able to one-sho Carriers, pure armies of Carriers are dead meat for them…
Carrier cost increase by definition would be a nerf. Even a slight cost increase would create a real handicap.
I would simply like to revert the last balance patch and let the dust settle again before implementing any new changes.
Protoss endgame does not concern as much as the ease with which they arrive at the endgame.
I don’t think carriers are imbalanced I think that they create games that are so incredibly infuriating that it makes people attempt unviable things to win rather than doing what is actually effective aka never attacking and waiting for the P to F up.
My strategy as Z that works is just never attack and take one more expansion and eventually grind them down. However the games are really boring.
