Today I found the perfect place for your probes. I hope it will be removed.
On the “divergence” map, authored by Marras, there is a chimney on the upper base in which you can hide the probe and nothing can kill it without a scan / aircraft. I have screenshots, but this cute forum won’t let me send them. Ready to provide on request. Fix it.
You can host them on an image hosting service, then put the links here, select those links, and click the </> button in the 
menu to cut their link property and make them ok for posting.
That way http://someimagehost.com/imagecode become http://someimagehost.com/imagecode and it work.
