Hello everyone I want to play Starcraft 2 but my current laptop does not run Starcraft 2 well. I wanted to know if anyone can recommend a budget computer and or budget build that I can implement in order to run Starcraft 2 well.
Additional Information: I always play on low settings and I like to play multiplayer games too. The only games I play are Starcraft 2 and Chess and I don’t think that is going to change because I’m not a fan of First Person Shooters or games of that nature. The computer will also be used for school. Would it be possible to obtain a pc that can run Starcraft 2 well at under 1000 dollars? Preferably it would be at or under 800 dollars if its possible. If anyone can help this poor guy it would greatly be appreciated.
A lot of cheap laptops can run sc2 on low, my laptop cost me 675€ 10 years ago and still runs ok,never under 45fps in 1v1.
Im sure with your budget can get some nice laptop for both starcraft and school. Getting an ssd I think it also improves the performance, also a laptop with dedicated graphics card even a low tier one.
Thank you for responding. A desktop is okay also since at my school they don’t like for us to use our laptops. Do you think I should build a pc or just buy one? Additionally what CPU should I get to guarantee that I can play Starcraft 2 smoothly with low settings?
mostly any pc will play sc2 these days, even low end graphics cards wont have a problem, and it all runs on 1 thread so you don’t need multiple cores in your cpu just make sure the clock speed is like 3.5ghz+, seriously though dude I think just about anything in modern day will run sc2, as long as it actually has any dedicated gpu you should be good.
I’m using a pos HP laptop with integrated graphics on an R5 processor and 8gb of what I assume is the worst DDR4 ram ever. I can play 1vs1 and campaign with almost no issues. Can’t play games with more than 2 people though and definitely can’t play on anything higher than hybrid settings.
So just about any modern-ish computer can play sc2.
I really want to play team games too though so I was wondering what type of hardware I would need in order to enjoy team games with the lowest settings.
well maybe post a link to the kind of thing you are thinking of…
I’m pretty sure any budget gaming PC for about $500 in 2019 will be able to play team games on max settings without breaking a sweat.
I’m having a hard time figuring out what kind of processor I should get. i5 or i7? additionally I have a friend who has a 144hz monitor and he says its the best thing ever but I’m not sure if its worth it.
You’ll need a CPU with good single core performance more than a good GPU. I’d suggest a Ryzen 3600. It’s relatively cheap, performs well and can overclock if that’s something you’re into. It doesn’t have integrated graphics though so you’d also need to pick up a 2nd hand graphics card. Almost any GPU will be good enough for this at low or hybrid settings. I’d suggest looking at a 2nd hand AMD GPU or something like Nvidia’s 1660. Just don’t buy more than 2 generations old.

I’d recommend an AMD CPU rather than intel for a budget build. Intel is good for high end builds but you get more bang for your buck with AMD.

What do you think of this? AMD Ryzen 7 2700 Processor or do I need something higher?
The 2700 will probably be okay, it’s not a great CPU but it’s not bad either. You’ll likely get a little lag but not enough to make the game unplayable. Especially if you keep to 2vs2 and not some of the other team game modes.
I found this on amazon, it is 630 dollars.: Dell Inspiron Gaming PC Desktop AMD Ryzen 7 2700 Processor, 16GB DRAM, 1TB HDD, AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB GDDR5 Graphics Card, Windows 10 64-bit, Blue LED, Model Number: i5676-A696Blu
yes that would play sc2 easily, although personally if you are looking to spend around that price, I’d go for a slightly better cpu and a slightly worse gpu. The RX 580 is massive overkill if you only want it for sc2, whereas a higher clock speed cpu would increase your framerate as that is where the bottleneck will come from in this game.
Would 1050ti be sufficient ?
For SC2, absolutely.
Also when it comes to CPU the Ryzen 7 2700 would run the game okay by the way, it’s just that you’d probably want to overclock it to 4ghz or whatever rather than the base clock speed of 3.2 which is a bit slow.
That’s more than enough. I’d look at getting an SSD though. HHDs aren’t very good.
Never, ever overclock a laptop. They are not built to handle the extra thermal stress and usually it will void your warranty as laptops don’t usually allow overclocking for this reason.
Just had to add this because if the OP buys a laptop, this could kill it.
I am purchasing a desktop. I want to play multiplayer though 4v4 lol but I think its out of my budget.
Oh yeah sorry I was assuming desktop because the build op posted including that CPU is a desktop.
It’s not. The PC you posted will be able to play 4v4 on max settings.
