Bonus point pool questions

Hi,

I have some question about Bonus points pool.

On Liquipedia, it says there is 104 new points every week or 1 every 96 minutes.

But I don’t see my bonus pool increasing every 96 minutes.

When are new bonus points added to the pool of a current season? Every Sunday? Once a month? Only at the start of a season and no more after it? Only when we join the season?

Bonus pool does increase at a variable rate depending on your league. BUT, to promote competition for the first place into each division, it does not increases anymore during the season lock. And we are currently, into season lock.

I know, it’s 104.4 for all league except Master and Grand Master, wich I’m not.

But still, it doesn’t answer my question. When new bonus points are added, excluding season lock?

In when season lock starts?

You do know that ladder points (which is what the bonus pool is) mean literally nothing right?

… Why can’t people answer to the question instead of telling me other things?

Yes I know about MMR. Ladder point can still get you your position in your division if you always stay around same MMR wich is my case.

As far as I know, MMR can only allow to switch league, division rank are still based on ladder points.

So now, could someone answer the question instead of telling me other things I already know?

“When are new bonus points added to the pool of a current season? Every Sunday? Once a month? Only at the start of a season and no more after it? Only when we join the season?”

Here is the question. Maybe it will help people to understand my question so they don’t tell me other things I’m not asking for.

  1. MMR is the only skill ranking point system. They determine how you measure up against other players
  2. No one can answer questions about ladder points because no one knows what they do besides determine your league position (which doesn’t mean anything, GM’s ranking is purely based on MMR and so is the overall ladder ranking). The biggest question asked about ladder points is why Blizzard even has them. The popular hypothesis is that if they removed them the ladder would break because of the implementation

Seem it’s too hard for you to read correctly.

I already know all that.

Still, in a division, it’s not MMR that says you are 100th or 1st of that division. It’s ladder point.

MMR allow you to switch tier or league. Did I talk about switching tier or league? NO! I talk about ladder points for the ranking in one division!

SO MY QUESTION IS ABOUT IT!!!

I already know it means nothing about skills? Did I say something about skills? No? Then **** answer the question.

  1. People can answer it, cause they see when there are new bonus points. If they don’t care about it, then why are they coming to post useless answer here? I’m looking for someone who knows.

P.S. : Did I tell you I was GM? No? Then why the hell are you talking about it instead of shut up or answering the question of the topic is about?

To accumulate bonus pool, you need to not play. I have nearly 1K bonus pool because I don’t have time to log in and play as much as I would love to. I am hoping to change this soon. I heart SC2.

Ya, but when do they add bonus points?

I had a bunch at first, cause I’ve been ranked only couple days ago.

Liquipedia says there is one every 96 minutes for all leagues below Master.

But I’m at 0 now and even while not playing, no more points.

So I would like to understand when they are added exactly (what time, wich day, wich frequency) (when there are no seasons lock (and when a seasons lock start)?

All the time, little by little. You mentioned 1 point every 96 minutes, which seems about right.

The season lock is the last week of each season. So the current one started the 24-09-2020, and should stop between the 01 and 02-10-2020. At which point your bonus pool will start to grow immediately.

Oh I see! Thank you for your answer  !! That’s complete!

Do you know if the 02-10-2020, we will start with a starting amount of bonus point? or if the starting amount is 0, but since it will grow back, it would eventually accumulate some points when we don’t play?

I’m not entirely sure, but I think that if you place yourself at the very start of the season it’s zero.

However, if you do start a bit later, you will be provided with the bonus pool that you would have had if you had started it from the start ; and so in that case yes, the starting amount will differ from zero.

Where does that interest for bonus pool comes from ?

Oh ok, thank you!

And ya, for starting later, I knew it, cause I started couple days ago and I had lot of bonus points, same when I played 2 years ago and 4 years ago.

But I never started at the real start of a season.

And I’m interesting on it, because my MMR doesn’t change a lot (I’m not that good, so it keep getting up and down around the same), so what I find fun in ladder is to try to be at the first place of my division and bonus points help to get to the top (or avoid losing points when I lose).

And now, I’ve got a good position on my divisions, but 0 bonus points, and since I lose often, I would lose that position if I play. I know most ladders players doesn’t care about division position and only tiers and league, but I’m not that player. I don’t like ladders that much, but I find that division ranking fun and that’s why I wanna play it.

Got it. It’s true that there’s a competition within the competition with the ladder points. The most addicted players want to get to the first place !

And that’s precisely why the bonus pool stops to increase during the season lock : so that, if you’ve already spent it (≈ played ranked regularly), each defeat or victory does modify your ranking within the division. And so it’s not about who plays the most anymore, but there’s a bit of gambling and of tactical choice. Going for the first place then comes with some risks ! :cowboy_hat_face:

You should turn your mass surrender bot off on NA, Jyveks, you instaquit about 8 games against my six year old nephew.

I don’t use any bots. I just read stuff, like this forum, while doing F10-c because I want to start next season as Bronze tier 3 and work my way up (with MMR until I cant go up anymore, then ladder points to be 1st of my division).

I got way too high for me because the first time I played, I rushed against players who wasnt able to defend, but Im not that good, I keep loos8ng (even if I dont quit), so now I want to work my way up against people of my levels without rush. I wont quit next seasons.

And now I cant cause I would lose my division ranking, wich I dont want to lose, it would look good on my profile career lol.

HomoERektus has a point here, Jyveks.

  • First the more you freelose, the less likely you’ll be to catch up not only with the MMR but also with the division points of the players of your league who don’t.
  • Second, what do do there is commonly called smurfing. Keep in mind that the easier progression you wish for for you will translate into a harder one for ALL the players you will encounter until you reach your true level back. And Bronze players being for half of them 30 APM beginners just starting out the game, you’re going to crush them whatever you do really. That creates a lot of problems (I’ve got a whole thread about it ) .

Now, I find your motivation interesting, since changing playstyle (transition from rush to macro) wasn’t something the smurfs had mentioned to me yet. So, in return, let me give you a piece of advice : even if you don’t care about the other players, stay away from Bronze 3. There are 49% of smurfs in that tier, some of which are in reality diamond level posting in this very forum. So your walk in the park might get way more chaotic than planned…

I don’t want to smurf or crush players. My apm is around 20,-30, or 50 for zerg cause I spam click, so bronze players are my levels.

That’s why I never play ladder usually, they keep matching me with players not my level, so I never play it, since it get boring. That’s why I’m doing it. So I could finally play with people of the same level as me.

It took me 15 years just to be able to win SC1 and SC BW campaign. Im not good and I want to be matched with players of the same skill as me.

And ya, it’s harder to get a good position since I lost bonus points for those losts, so now, I just have to hope they (other players of my division in each race) won’t catch me before the end.

But at least, next season, it will be fun instead of telling me: ladders not for you, people just crush you everytime.

And I don’t want to catch up with MMR, but to be on my real skill level league and tier, until Im good enough to upgrade and get to higher tier and league.

And ya, my goal is not to go to 0 too, cause there will be only fake loe MMR. While mine, I don’t want a fake low MMR. Just one that allow me to play with my levels instead of always being the last, especially in team (on a 4v4, I will always be 8th, because they use my MMR to match me woth players that are way better)

Certainly, but you don’t need to freelose to achieve that. Just play normally (without rush), and you’ll eventually get placed at an MMR that fits your performances with that playing style.

As for being low APM, it’s not uncommon if you do play protoss (particularly skytoss or DTs) or mech, particularly if your don’t spam. But those will then translate into almost the same EPM, and so you’ll be able to beat players with much more APM.

And regarding not being good, that game is virtually impossible to master, so there are players from levels way above yours that don’t consider themselves good.

Well if you don’t freelose the next season, your bonus pool won’t go into the void. :slightly_smiling_face:
