I played Bunker Stukov after a long time and realized how much his bunkers sucked now compared to when they were originally released. It was a viable and amazing strategy. However, it was NERFED harder than any other commander has ever been nerfed. And furthermore, players were pushed into playing mech stukov. While in reality, people who enjoyed Bunkers, really enjoyed bunkers. And buffing mech while leaving bunkers alone was a better option. The current prestige, doesn’t even bring his bunkers back to their former glory.
This is very inconsistent w/ Dehaka, Abather, Tychus or Mengs more recently. Mengs Earthsplitters are 10x more game breaking then bunkers ever were. And instead of nerf bat they have consistently been buffed. I mean…a mapwide range with NO agro? Can’t think of anything more gamebreaking then this. Yet, no nerf.
While, its okay for each commander to have variable mechanics…it still kinda sucks when one commander is strong enough to solo the entire map while the other commander is polishing his 500 mineral bunker (gotta count the damn overlord w/ new supply).
Perhaps, its time to have another look at the Stukovs bunkers. If prestige is to bring back the bunker play, then allow it to have defensive capabilities as well OR maybe decreased mineral cost.
Uh… no. They have a limited range that’s not even close to mapwide. Even on a smaller map, like DoN, you’re not gonna be able to hit anywhere you want on the map unless you build them right at the barricades. At that position they might be able to hit the entire map, save the fringes. But then you run into the issue of blocking you or your ally’s defense points, and they’re fairly vulnerable buildings to boot.
Dehaka has his own weaknesses, primarily the fact that most of his army outside Mutas are slow. Might not seem that big of a deal when he has Tunnel, but even at max level he can be killed without army support, and he can’t be in multiple places at once. Abathur has the same issue of lacking mobility, although his monstrocities are generally harder to kill when you have 6 of them without prestige. Even so, you can’t really compare either of those two to bunkers, that’s like comparing apples to oranges. Tychus might be the only one who could be compared, but Tychus has no mech at all and just has hero units and is also weaker on defense maps or objectives.
I’m also guessing you missed the patch where they rebuffed bunkers a bit so that going for bunkers wasn’t as crippling as it was after the initial nerf. Cost was increased to 400, but supply reduced to 4. As far as I’m concerned, costing their original supply as opposed to 6 is worth paying an extra 50 minerals considering the overall value of bunkers-- that and the fact that Stukov is usually floating plenty of minerals if he’s going bunkers to produce Infested Marines instead of barracks.
Really? I played with a couple allies on the PTR and it looked pretty much like the old bunkers. When each bunker spawns 3x the infested, it doesn’t matter they cost a couple hundred more minerals and +2 supply.
ESO’s are hard enough to use that I don’t think they’re broken. The range is excellent but still prohibitive, they suck up a ton of supply, and cost a chunk of change to set up. On top of that, they can’t hit air. At their best, they’re incredible. But there’s enough idiosyncrasies and hoops to jump through that I think they’re fine.
If I was going to pick something to rebalance it would be Tychus by a country mile, and maybe Zeratul. They both take virtually no macro, start incredibly fast, and don’t have any particular weaknesses. They are flirting with the unfair line IMO. Zeratul could probably be tuned down a bit and be fine, but Tychus might be foundationally broken.
Already mentioned in another post, but worth mentioning again… do note that his Bunkers went from 300/0/4, to 350/0/6, but is now at some “middle ground” of 400/0/4.
One person had commented in the past that Infested Bunkers provided near Ultralisk level stats, but without any gas cost (“Bunkerlisk” )
Another person who used to use and abuse Bunkers on “Stukov 1.0” noted that he could play games by massing Bunkers, and changing around the Psi Emitter as needed. It requires so little attention that he’s watching Netflix, while during a game! Infested Bunkers just checked off too many boxes.
I don’t have any ideas about Tychus (other than buffing Nikara so she can heal herself, without using Reinvigorating Burst, nor getting the “heal 2 things simultaneously”).
For Zeratul, I suppose his T. Cannons could go to 325 to 350 each. (recall they went from 250, to 400, to 350). Otherwise, his units are still pricy, and they’re still capped at 100 supply.
Infested bunker with 2nd presitge is better than what it was before the bunker nerf unless we need it for defense. However, as infested marine costs only 15 minerals, just build marines and erase everything on the map is much more effective in most cases. In addition, we should consider that infested bunkers can cause severe lags.
Tychus and Zeratul are the biggest offenders. I’d argue abour Dehaka too, but his design is very good and it allow players to differentiate their playstyles. Abathur is a bit too op when he reach a critical amount of biomass and his weakest moment is early game (wich is not nearly as weak as, for example, Swann who has to work to have a slight less powerful army than Aba by the lategame).
