Beneficial Mutators?

It would be interesting if there are beneficial mutators to mix with the standard make-life-harder mutators. If there was a Bonus Gas mutator, it could be mixed with Slim Pickings to make a gas-heavy challenge.

This could also allow for more variety in Brutal+ where higher level mutators could be added when these beneficial mutators offset the challenge somewhat.

Okay, so one purely positive one. Aside from the Bonus Gas one, which should require no additional work for the players, any other ideas?

Having mutators that are fun was just not fundamental to mutations as a whole. And I never understood their decision on this at all.

It’s a mutator, a mutation is just a change, but 90% of them are “a change to make life harder”. With some within that entirely tedious.

I’d really like to see symmetrical mutators that equally affect both the players and the AI. For example:

  • All units have +100% health
  • All units and structures deal +50% damage
  • All units receive double benefit from attack/armor upgrades

I was working on a versus mod for a while that implemented mutators to affect each player equally. So with We Move Unseen, everyone’s units are cloaked. With Avengers, everyone’s units grow more powerful from nearby allied deaths. With Speed Freaks, everyone’s units get the speed boost. Same goes for explosions, setting terrain on fire, infested spawns, etc.

While I dunno about adding a bunch of exclusively beneficial mutators, I do wish we had more mutators that did more than just buff the enemy/throw extra crap at you.

I kind of like a lot of Maguro’s custom mutators, in that they affect both ally and enemy equally, and change up the battlefield in unique ways for interesting gameplay options, rather than just buffing the enemies or throwing hordes of enemies/damaging AoEs at you. I do wish Blizzard would take a leaf from his ideas and design future mutators that change up gameplay like that.

For example, my favorites from Maguro’s are:
Level Playing Field: All weapons and abilities can hit both air and ground targets.
Endurance: Player and enemy units and structures have 3x more health and shields.
Supreme Commander: Massive units gain 25% life and are bigger, the rest of units have 25% less life and are smaller. All units gain +2 weapon range.
